Description

Automation Specialist:  Focus on Programmable Logic Controllers (Various Models)

Location: The Woodlands, TX (Hybrid-Remote-In Office)

 

The applicant must demonstrate the following qualifications:

1)             The applicant must have comprehensive and functional knowledge regarding principles of automation programming, measurement programming, and instrumentation configuration.

2)             The applicant must specialize in either automation, measurement, or communications applications and retain relevant certifications or work experience qualifications.

3)             The applicant shall function independently and leverage their existing knowledge and skillset to overcome challenges in a dynamic workplace environment.

4)             The applicant shall represent the company (Colexas Digital, Inc.) to its clientele in a manner that is respectable and professional at all times.

On condition of previous work history, the applicant may assume supervisory responsibilities for workforce and job oversight, training, scheduling, planning, safety, and documentation of reporting personnel and their activities. As a supervisor, the applicant may engage with company management to enforce and implement policies.

Activities

 

The applicant must demonstrate competence in the following:

1)             Understand field automation specifications and design programmatic templates for existing field automation platforms, including EFM devices, PLC devices, and HMI devices.

2)             Understand principles of TCP/IP communications and relevant hardware infrastructure.

3)             Plan network layouts for multi-node networks and configure communications devices, such as routers, satellite communications systems, managed switches, cell modems, and broadband radios.

4)             Connect multiple networks to access points or communications gateways.

5)             Install, wire, configure, and calibrate temperature, pressure, level, and meter instrumentation.

6)             Loop test instrumentation.

7)             Troubleshoot programming, instrumentation, and communications failures.

8)             Perform electrical troubleshooting on low voltage systems (<480 VAC).

9)             Document and email field activities using word processing and spreadsheet software.

10)       Document and email IO configurations, tag / point lists, cause & effect matrices, and control narratives using word processing and spreadsheet software.

11)       Basic computer literacy and operation of laptop Ethernet and USB communications ports.

12)       Define and implement site acceptance and functional check procedures for facility commissioning and SCADA integration.

13)       Perform site acceptance testing to commission facility operations.

14)       Perform functional checks to validate facility system integration with SCADA processes.

Education

 

Master’s Degree (Preferred), or Bachelor's Degree with substantial experience in Control Automation (Acceptable)

Specialization

 

The applicant must establish competency in at least one of the following areas through either certification or work experience:

1)             Measurement applications — the applicant must be familiar with API and AGA specifications and their relationship to automation and measurement system implementation. The applicant may specialize in understanding and applying measurement programming, calibration, and maintenance techniques to ensure compliance with relevant API and AGA requirements. Knowledge of legal and regulatory issues involving BLM, GLO, and Texas Rail Road Commission rules is recommended.

2)             Automation application — the applicant must be able to define and understand client requirements, perform a functional analysis of field architecture, and produce an automation solution to satisfy operational objectives. The applicant must be familiar and comfortable with multiple IEC 61131-3 languages, including ladder diagram, function block diagram, and structured text. The applicant must demonstrate profound competence in automation design and programming. The applicant may retain relevant certifications and membership credentials, such as those provided by ISA.

3)             Communications applications — the applicant must be familiar with network specification and design using relevant communications technologies and infrastructure. The applicant must understand concepts related to small, medium, and large scale communication deployments. The applicant may retain certifications relevant for communications applications, such as Cisco certifications for routing, security, and network design.

1)             The applicant must have earned a two-year technical certification or degree. A four year STEM degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.

2)             The applicant must be licensed and able to drive in the United States.

3)             The applicant must be fluent in English.

4)             The applicant must be able to lift 50 pounds.
