Job description

Overview of Position:
Under supervision, the Field Operator operates, troubleshoots, and repairs oil and gas equipment in oil, water, and/or gas production and distribution facilities. All work is performed in strict adherence to environmental and safety protocols. Responsibilities will involve travel to various locations throughout California.
Position Levels
  • Field Operator 1: Entry-level, works under direct supervision
  • Field Operator 2: Journeyman-level performs duties independently, may mentor FO1
  • Field Operator 3: Senior-level, performs advanced troubleshooting, may have Lead responsibilities; may mentor FO1, FO2

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conducts tests and inspections to evaluate quality and/or performance of wastewater, crude oil, and/or gas streams, and communicates variances to supervisor.
  • Monitors information from materials, events, and environmental conditions to detect or assess problems and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Accurately reports and records relevant information in the approved format.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment and determines when and what type of maintenance is required.
  • Conducts all duties in compliance with environmental and safety requirements and in a timely manner.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements
Education and Experience
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent, and
  • 3 years of relevant field operations experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required
  • Knowledge of oil & gas production operations and facilities and their associated environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of relevant machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of and ability to learn electronic equipment and computer software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, operate and maintain complex equipment, perform basic math, and understand process flow diagrams.
  • Ability to properly and safely wear all required PPE including safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed shoes, supplied-air respirator, etc.
  • Verbal communication skills that afford the incumbent the ability to build & maintain positive and effective working relationships with all levels of management, field operations personnel, community stakeholders, and contract personnel.
  • Strong organization and time management skills enabling the incumbent to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain flexibility in prioritizing work responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
  • Operations run 24/7, requiring flexibility for shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs.
  • Valid California driver's license with a driving record deemed acceptable by the company's auto insurance carrier is required due to regular travel to field and operational sites.

  • Knowledge of Maximo software.

Environment & Physical Demands
Work is performed extensively in outdoor environments, exposed to a wide range of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures (both heat and cold), wetness, and humidity. The essential functions of this position include adjusting/moving in all directions objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and 100 pounds with assistance rarely; sitting, standing, walking, walking on uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, stooping; repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers; visual acuity for reading computer screens or preparing data, inspecting objects, and operating vehicles; operating a motor vehicle and/or heavy equipment; working near moving mechanical parts, tight spaces, and on high and precarious surfaces; and/or communicating with others to exchange information. Exposure to environmental elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, and loud noises should be expected. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all tasks is required. Incumbents must adhere to all safety protocols, especially those concerning heat illness prevention (access to water and shade).
