PINE RIDGE HOSPITAL

The 45 bed Pine Ridge Hospital, serving a Lakota Indian population of more than 17,000, is the largest in the Great Plains Area. 16 physician staff sees medical, obstetrical, pediatric, and surgical patients. The facility located in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, includes full-service general surgery, an obstetrical ward, and dental. Kyle and Wanblee Health Centers and two health stations (Manderson and Lacreek) operate within the Pine Ridge Service Unit.

• Kyle Health Center – Ambulatory Care Center with 14.5 providers
• Wanblee Health Center – Ambulatory Care Center with 42 providers

Requirements (Duties include but are not limited to)

• Providing professional nursing care principles, practices and procedures required to assess needs of patients;
• Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to react promptly in emergency situations including the implementation of life saving procedures;
• Providing counseling, guidance and health instruction to patients; and
• Identifying disease entities in order to recognize complications and therapeutic interventions required.
• Provide a wide range of professional nursing duties according to established professional nursing principles, practices, concepts and procedures in the Operating Room (OR) setting for peri- and post-operative care of recovering surgical patients from extensive and complex surgical procedures by applying nursing requirements before, during and immediately after surgery for various surgical procedures by monitoring and applying treatment techniques,
• Educating on postoperative care; manage and treat patients with peri- and post-operative problems; perform highly specialized nursing assignments appropriate to the various age of the patient served; apply knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques; maintains, monitors and operates specialized equipment and instruments for surgical procedures;

Qualifications

• Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision -OR- Possess of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience-OR- Possess a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing
• Must possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
• Must have a minimum of 12 months experience in a med/surg nursing environment during the last 36 months
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) is mandatory for all specialties.
• Evidence of current immunizations is required
