What is an Offshore Without TWIC job?

An Offshore Without TWIC job refers to offshore positions that do not require a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). These jobs are typically in sectors like oil and gas, maritime support, or construction, where access to secure port facilities is not needed. Workers may still need other certifications, such as HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) or BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training). Employers may have different requirements based on the job's duties and location. Always check specific job postings for detailed qualifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Offshore Without Twic position, and why are they important?

To thrive in an offshore role without a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential), you typically need physical fitness, safety awareness, and relevant offshore training certifications such as HUET or SafeGulf. Basic familiarity with equipment specific to the offshore oil, gas, or wind sectors, as well as compliance with company-mandated safety systems, is important. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication help you succeed in the challenging and dynamic offshore environment. These skills ensure safe operations, efficient teamwork, and adherence to strict industry safety standards.

Can you work offshore without a TWIC card?

Offshore workers, including those in roles like offshore without TWIC, typically need a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) to access secure maritime facilities and ports. However, some offshore positions may not require a TWIC if they do not involve port access or are in areas with different security protocols; it is essential to check specific job requirements and employer policies. Additional certifications such as Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) may also be necessary.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

High-paying jobs that can reach $4,000 a week without a degree often include roles in the offshore industry such as oil rig workers, welders, and specialized technicians, which typically require technical skills, certifications, and safety training. These positions usually involve long shifts and physically demanding work environments but offer substantial compensation based on experience and skill level.

What types of offshore positions are available if I do not have a TWIC card?

Many offshore jobs do not require a TWIC card, especially those that do not need access to secure port facilities, such as roles on drilling rigs, production platforms, or wind farms deployed directly from private docks. These positions can include roustabout, floorhand, galley staff, or maintenance personnel. You may still need other certifications, such as Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET), and must pass pre-employment screenings and physicals. If you plan to advance or work in roles involving port access, obtaining a TWIC card eventually can broaden your opportunities.

Is it hard to get hired on an offshore oil rig?

Getting hired as an offshore worker without a TWIC card can be challenging because many companies require security credentials and relevant certifications such as Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET). Candidates typically need prior experience, physical fitness, and the ability to work in remote, demanding environments with long shifts. The hiring process often involves background checks, skill assessments, and safety training completion.

Can you get an offshore oil rig job with no experience?

Offshore oil rig jobs typically require some prior experience or relevant certifications such as Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET). Entry-level positions may be available for those willing to undergo training, but most roles prefer candidates with related skills or background in the industry.

Job description

About the Company

We are a renewable energy and ocean technology company committed to rapidly developing andย deploying technologies that will ensure a sustainable future for Earth by unlocking the vast energyย potential of its oceans. Our focus is on capturing civilizational levels of ultra-low-cost renewable energyย for applications including computing and affordable renewable fuels delivered to shore.

The company is a public benefit corporation headquartered in Portland, Oregon and backed by leading venture capitalists, philanthropic investors, university endowments, and private investment offices. We operate as an idea meritocracy in which the best ideas change the company's direction on a regular basis.ย

About the Job

Our core technology is the node, a device that produces energy in the ocean's harshest conditions for years at a time without human maintenance or intervention.ย

Once our nodes leave the manufacturing facility, they must be deployed, operated, and maintained safely and reliably across vast oceanic regions-all at an unprecedented scale and reduced cost. As an Offshore Technician you will provide support for our pilot fleet deployed off the Oregon Coast. Additionally, you will assist in the testing and development of new operations which facilitate rapid commercialization of a large-scale fleet abroad. Once the technology and operations have been successfully demonstrated, your primary duty will be training new crews internationally to execute the offshore operations developed in the Pacific Northwest.

Initially this role will focus on operating, maintaining, and repairing the mechanical equipment required forย our offshore operations. However, the intent is to cross train technicians across disciplines in order toย expand the team's capacity for training crews overseas. Thus, both learning new skills and training othersย on the skills you currently command will be required.ย This role demands a hands-on learner with the commitment and curiosity required for continuedย education. This individual must enjoy and be capable of passing on knowledge to others. If you thrive in aย high-stakes, fast-paced environment and are eager to develop the next generation of offshore energyย infrastructure, we want to hear from you.

Our staff have worked at organizations such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, Boeing, Tesla, Apple, Virgin Orbit, Astra, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, New Relic, Bridgewater, Raytheon, Disney Imagineering, and the US Navy, Army, and Air Force, as well as research universities, startups, and small companies across a range of industries. We are organized as a public benefit corporation and are backed by leading venture capital firms, private investors, philanthropic investors, and endowments.

We strive to be the best team on the planet and we compensate our team accordingly.

Responsibilities
  • Provide operational support for the deployment, recovery, and repair of a North Pacific pilot fleet. Initial focus on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems with the intent of broadeningย ownership through training.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair offshore mechanical equipment and systems. These may includeย hydraulics, pneumatics, winches, prime movers, and other industrial machinery.
  • Participate in cross training with other disciplines (communications, electronics, deck operations,ย etc.).
  • Train other team members on the systems / operations you own.
  • Work alongside engineering to commission and test new equipment utilized for offshoreย operations
  • Collaborate with engineering to improve existing and develop new means for offshore operations
  • Assist in maintenance of owned equipment.
  • Travel abroad to train crews internationally on the novel operations developed during pilot testing.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience working offshore for extended periods
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience operating and repairing industrial equipment in a marine,ย offshore, military, or comparable remote/field environment
  • Willingness and ability to both lead training and participate in inter-discipline training
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of year offshore
  • Ability to travel 300+ miles offshore
  • Holder of active TWIC or have ability to obtain.
  • Ability to adhere to and promote a culture of safety.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience participating in the fabrication and commissioning of new industrial equipment
  • Experience interfacing with engineering teams
  • Understanding of basic AC and DC electrical theory
  • Exposure to marine communications systems (radio, satellite comms, networking, etc.)
  • Exposure to PLC systems
Schedule & Availability
  • This position is based on a rotational offshore schedule, working long shifts while offshore toย support 24/7 operations.
  • While on hitch, you should expect 12-hour days, seven days per week, in a dynamic offshoreย environment.
  • The Offshore Technician is a frontline role; flexibility for weather, vessel availability, and missionย timelines is required.
  • Travel overseas will be required.
Compensation and Benefits

If hired for this full-time role, you will receive:

  • Cash compensation of $100,000 - $140,000.
  • Equity in the company. We're all owners and if we're successful, this equity should be far and away the most valuable component of your compensation.
  • A benefits package that helps you take care of yourself and your family, including:
    • Flexible paid time off
    • Health insurance (the company pays 100% of gold level PPO plan for full time employees, their partners, and dependents)
    • Dental insurance (the company pays 100% for full time employees and 100% for their partners and dependents)
    • Vision insurance (the company pays 100% for full time employees, their partners, and dependents)
    • Disability insurance (the company pays 100% for a policy to provide long term financial support if you become disabled)
    • Ability to contribute to tax-advantaged accounts, including 401(k), health FSA, and dependent care FSA
  • Relocation assistance to facilitate your move to Portland (if needed).
Location

This positional is rotational and thus could accommodate individuals outside of the Portland area.ย However, our offices, lab, and shop are located in Portland, Oregon. Candidates residing in the Pacific Northwest are preferred.
