What is an offshore operations manager?

Offshore Operations Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities on offshore facilities such as oil rigs, gas platforms, or wind farms. Their main duties include managing personnel, ensuring safety compliance, overseeing production, and maintaining equipment. They act as a key link between offshore teams and onshore management, ensuring that operations run efficiently and safely while meeting regulatory and company standards. Offshore Operations Managers often have significant experience in the industry and strong leadership skills.

What are some common challenges offshore operations managers face when coordinating with onshore teams?

Offshore Operations Managers often encounter challenges in aligning communication and workflow between offshore and onshore teams due to time zone differences, cultural nuances, and varying regulatory standards. Maintaining real-time updates on project progress, ensuring safety compliance, and addressing logistical issues such as supply chain disruptions are also common hurdles. Successful managers typically leverage strong communication skills, robust planning tools, and regular virtual meetings to bridge these gaps and keep both teams aligned toward shared operational goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an offshore operations manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Offshore Operations Manager, you need extensive knowledge of offshore engineering, safety regulations, logistics, and typically a degree in engineering or a related field. Job description

About Endurance
Endurance is building the world's first modular subsea geothermal power plants, converting vast thermal resources under the ocean into gigawatts of baseload power. Backed by Founders Fund, Felicis, First Round Capital, and Point72 Ventures, our founding team includes veterans from SpaceX, Helion, Blue Origin, and Apple. We have completed multiple deep-ocean deployments to subsea volcanoes and are launching a long-term demonstration project this fall. By leveraging modular design, manufacturing scale, efficient drilling, and latent cooling on the seafloor, we are pioneering a new category of energy that outperforms traditional sources on environmental impact, deployment speed, and cost.
What you'll be doing
As Senior Power Delivery Engineer at Endurance, you will own the technical execution required to deliver electricity from our subsea geothermal power plants to the customer. From selecting transmission architectures and procuring subsea export cables to commissioning substations and energizing commercial projects, you will ensure nothing stands between our turbines and revenue.
This is not a traditional project management role. You will own the engineering decisions, supplier relationships, procurement, and field execution required to connect our power plants to the grid. You will work closely with our electrical engineering team to determine how power should be transmitted, evaluate technologies and vendors, and drive every aspect of implementation from concept through commissioning.
We believe power delivery is one of the highest leverage engineering functions at the company. Designing an extraordinary power plant is only valuable if we can reliably and economically deliver electricity to customers. Your job is to own that problem end to end.
You will work directly with electrical, mechanical, drilling, offshore operations, supply chain, and leadership teams to develop the infrastructure required for our first commercial deployments. In the near term, that means selecting transmission architectures, procuring subsea export cables, designing and commissioning grid interconnections, managing horizontal directional drilling from shore to offshore, developing onshore electrical infrastructure, and coordinating utility integration.
As Endurance scales from demonstration systems to commercial power plants around the world, you will define the architecture and execution strategy that connects our offshore generation assets to utility grids across multiple countries. Every commercial project we deploy will build on the technical foundation you establish.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional engineer who enjoys taking ownership of complex multidisciplinary problems. You should be equally comfortable evaluating transmission topologies, discussing protection philosophy with electrical engineers, negotiating with cable suppliers, reviewing contractor drawings, walking a construction site, and solving whatever technical problems arise to keep a project moving.
You will be one the first engineer dedicated to power delivery at Endurance. You will work directly with the founding team and engineering leadership, and as the organization grows, you will have significant influence over our electrical infrastructure strategy, supplier ecosystem, and commercial deployment capability.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of electrical infrastructure connecting Endurance power plants to utility grids
  • Work with the electrical engineering team to develop transmission architectures for commercial deployments, including voltage selection, export systems, and grid interconnection strategy
  • Select, qualify, and manage suppliers for subsea export cables, substation equipment, transformers, switchgear, and related electrical infrastructure
  • Own the technical execution of cable installation, landfall construction, horizontal directional drilling, and associated infrastructure required for commercial deployment
  • Lead technical engagement with utilities, EPC contractors, permitting partners, and installation contractors to ensure successful project execution
  • Partner closely with electrical, mechanical, offshore operations, drilling, supply chain, and finance teams to ensure commercial projects are delivered on schedule
  • Develop scalable technical standards and supplier strategies that support Endurance's expansion into global energy markets
  • Identify technical risks early, drive mitigation plans, and remove obstacles that could delay first power
  • Own the technical foundation of Endurance's power delivery capability as the company scales from pilot deployments to gigawatt-scale infrastructure
  • Help shape the organization as it grows, including identifying future hiring needs across transmission and electrical infrastructure
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of engineering experience delivering complex electrical infrastructure, energy systems, industrial facilities, offshore projects, or other multidisciplinary engineering programs
  • Strong technical understanding of electrical power systems and transmission infrastructure
  • Demonstrated ability to own large technical projects from concept through commissioning
  • Comfort making engineering decisions while coordinating suppliers, contractors, utilities, and multidisciplinary technical teams
  • Technical fluency strong enough to hold credibility with electrical, mechanical, drilling, and systems engineers
  • Willingness to travel frequently to supplier sites, construction sites, utility partners, and international deployment locations
  • Ability to work onsite in Seattle and travel to deployment sites as required

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with utility interconnections, substations, transmission systems, or power delivery infrastructure
  • Experience delivering renewable energy, offshore energy, utility, transmission, or industrial infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with subsea power systems, submarine cables, or offshore construction
  • Experience with horizontal directional drilling, marine construction, or utility-scale electrical installation
  • Background working with utilities, EPC contractors, or major infrastructure suppliers
  • Experience leading technically complex projects with significant ambiguity and broad ownership
Compensation, Benefits, & Perks
As a pre-revenue startup, Endurance Energy offers competitive base salaries and generous equity packages for full-time employees. Final base salary will be determined by an array of factors including internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and work experience.
A key aspect of our compensation philosophy is that value creation should be aligned with rewards. Right now this means equity is a significant portion of every full-time employee's compensation. As the company matures, there will be continued evolution and changes to the total rewards and total compensation package. What will always be true is that if we win, we win together. Equity is granted to every full-time employee as a meaningful piece of ownership. We believe the people building the company should share directly in the value they create.
In addition to a competitive base salary and equity, employees will receive all of our other great benefits and perks, including:
  • Benefits: Health, Dental, and Vision insurance coverage
  • Time Away: Flexible PTO including 12 paid company holidays
  • Global Fieldwork: Travel to fascinating deployment sites along oceanic ridges in locations like the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, and the Azores
  • Hands-on Experience: Participate in sea trials and deployment operations in partnership with leading oceanographic institutions
  • Cutting-edge Development: Work with technology that spans high-power electronics, marine systems, and clean energy
  • Impactful Work: Help solve one of the world's most pressing challenges
  • Dive Certification: Company-sponsored recreational dive certification
  • Other Perks: Access to the company boat, free meals and snacks, and the list goes on!

If you're selected for consideration, a recruiter will be able to discuss in greater detail.
