3Pl Manager information

What is a 3PL manager?

3PL Managers, or Third-Party Logistics Managers, oversee the coordination and management of logistics services provided by external companies. They are responsible for ensuring that warehousing, transportation, and distribution processes run smoothly and efficiently. Their duties include negotiating contracts, monitoring vendor performance, optimizing supply chain operations, and managing relationships between their company and logistics providers. 3PL Managers play a crucial role in reducing costs and improving service levels across the supply chain.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 3PL manager?

To thrive as a 3PL Manager, you need expertise in supply chain management, logistics coordination, and inventory control, often backed by a degree in logistics, business, or a related field. Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), and relevant certifications such as APICS or CSCMP is typically required. Strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help manage teams and foster client relationships. These skills are vital to ensure efficient operations, cost control, and high levels of customer satisfaction in third-party logistics environments.

What are some common challenges faced by a 3PL manager and how can they be overcome?

A 3PL Manager often encounters challenges such as coordinating logistics across multiple clients, managing fluctuating inventory levels, and ensuring timely delivery in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication with both internal teams and external partners is crucial to address these obstacles. Utilizing advanced warehouse management systems and regularly reviewing performance metrics can help streamline operations and address issues proactively. Building strong relationships with carriers and clients also enables smoother problem resolution and continuous process improvement.

Job description

Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.

We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.

We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.

If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.

About the Role:

As the Senior 3PL Strategy & Relationship Manager for Crusoe’s Cloud and Digital Infrastructure organization, you will shift our logistics footprint from a reactive operational model to a proactive, centralized strategy. Crusoe is scaling rapidly, which requires ordering long-lead datacenter infrastructure in advance and storing it strategically across a complex geographic footprint.

You will be the architect of our third-party logistics (3PL) network, ensuring that we maximize inventory availability across our fleet while strictly navigating the distinct sales tax and corporate structures inherent to how our projects are funded. This is a highly strategic role requiring a unique mix of inventory optimization, vendor negotiation, and cross-functional tax compliance coordination.

This role will be full-time and fully on-site at our San Francisco or Bellevue locations. Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic 3PL Network Architecture: Design, implement, and manage Crusoe’s regionalized and centralized 3PL warehousing network to buffer supply chain shortages and optimize lead times for data center deployments.
  • Tax & Regulatory Compliance Integration: Partner closely with internal Finance and Tax teams to ensure all warehousing strategies account for separate project-funding models and localized sales/use tax implications. Build tracking frameworks to eliminate tax exposure when storing assets across different jurisdictions.
  • Inventory Centralization & Fungibility Strategy: Establish frameworks to identify "fungible" vs. site-specific inventory. Create a dynamic redeployment strategy to safely relocate high-demand components when critical operational sites face shortages.
  • Strategic Supplier Management: Move beyond transactional 3PL relationships. Establish robust SLAs, QBRs, and performance dashboards to ensure our logistics partners scale seamlessly at Crusoe’s speed.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the strategic link between Product, Supply Chain Planning, Engineering, and Finance to translate future infrastructure roadmaps into tangible warehousing footprint requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in strategic logistics, supply chain management, or 3PL relationship management, ideally within capital-intensive tech infrastructure (Data Centers, Cloud, Telecom, or Energy).
  • Tax/Financial Acumen: Strong foundational understanding of how logistics networks impact corporate accounting, specifically regarding project-based funding, inventory asset holding costs, and sales/use tax implications.
  • Strategic Thinking: Proven track record of transforming a decentralized, reactive operational warehouse footprint into a centralized, data-driven inventory hub.
  • Insourcing/Scale Experience: Experience taking high-cost, third-party boutique logistics or customs processes and successfully building those capabilities in-house.
  • Inventory Expertise: Deep understanding of material planning, managing lead times, and executing fungible inventory strategies in high-shortage environments.
  • Systems Comfort: Familiarity with modern ERPs, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and data visualization tools to build internal logistics dashboards.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation and equity packages
  • Restricted Stock Units
  • Paid time off, paid holidays & leave of absence programs
  • Comprehensive health, dental & vision insurance
  • Employer contributions to HSA account
  • Paid parental leave
  • Paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability
  • Professional development & tuition reimbursement
  • Mental health & wellness support
  • Commuter benefits (parking & transit)
  • Cell phone stipend
  • 401(k) Retirement plan with company match up to 4% of salary
  • Volunteer time off
  • Global travel insurance & emergency assistance
  • Daily meals allowance
  • Additional perks & programs specific to location
Compensation Range

Compensation will be paid in the range of up to $155,000 - $185,000 + Bonus. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers. Compensation to be determined by the applicant's knowledge, education, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
