What is an offshore operations manager?

Offshore Operations Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities on offshore facilities such as oil rigs, gas platforms, or wind farms. Their main duties include managing personnel, ensuring safety compliance, overseeing production, and maintaining equipment. They act as a key link between offshore teams and onshore management, ensuring that operations run efficiently and safely while meeting regulatory and company standards. Offshore Operations Managers often have significant experience in the industry and strong leadership skills.

What are some common challenges offshore operations managers face when coordinating with onshore teams?

Offshore Operations Managers often encounter challenges in aligning communication and workflow between offshore and onshore teams due to time zone differences, cultural nuances, and varying regulatory standards. Maintaining real-time updates on project progress, ensuring safety compliance, and addressing logistical issues such as supply chain disruptions are also common hurdles. Successful managers typically leverage strong communication skills, robust planning tools, and regular virtual meetings to bridge these gaps and keep both teams aligned toward shared operational goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an offshore operations manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Offshore Operations Manager, you need extensive knowledge of offshore engineering, safety regulations, logistics, and typically a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with offshore management software, safety management systems, and certifications such as BOSIET or OPITO are standard requirements. Strong leadership, decision-making, and effective communication are vital soft skills for managing diverse teams and high-stakes situations. These competencies are crucial for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant offshore operations in challenging and dynamic environments.

Job description

Join Us!

At Google Operations Center we help Google users and customers solve problems and achieve their goals-all while enjoying a culture focused on improving continuously and being better together. We work hard, we play hard, and we want you to join us!

The US Program Management Lead is the strategic anchor for the Marketing Program Management (MPM) function. In this leadership role, you are responsible for the governance of the "front-end" of the campaign lifecycle-including marketing intake, requirement gathering, and activation strategy. You will lead a high-performing organization of Marketing Program Management Managers across the US, serving as the primary bridge between Google's Marketing teams and the global offshore production engine.

As a Lead of Marketing Program Management Managers, you provide the essential governance layer required to manage high-volume project pipelines, resource capacity, and executive-level stakeholder relationships. Your mission is to move the program management function from "order taking" to "strategic partnership," ensuring that every marketing request is technically sound, strategically aligned, and ready for flawless global execution.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $168,000 - $189,000 + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Please note that the compensation details listed in this role posting reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus or benefits. Some benefits information is included in this job description, and your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range and benefits for this position during the hiring process.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Governance: Establish and oversee the governance framework for US-based MPMs. Lead high-level business reviews (WBRs, MBRs, QBRs) with Google Marketing stakeholders to communicate performance, surface risks, and plan for future growth

  • Leadership of MPM's: Formally manage, coach, and develop a team of MPMs. Foster a culture that emphasizes technical marketing expertise, proactive roadblock removal, and stakeholder management

  • Intake & Pipeline Management: Own the end-to-end intake process. Ensure that marketing requirements are gathered with precision and that the project pipeline is balanced against global capacity. Act as the final authority on project prioritization and scope creep

  • Global Partnership & Alignment: Ensure that the "handoff" from US Program Management to Offshore Production is seamless, standardized, and high-quality as needed

  • Operational Excellence: Analyze operating data and project statistics to identify bottlenecks in the campaign lifecycle. Drive the redesign of intake infrastructure to increase scalability and automate manual requirement-gathering procedures

  • Strategic Stakeholder Navigation: Act as escalation point for US-based Marketing leads. Influence marketing strategy by providing data-backed insights into campaign performance, system behavior, and delivery feasibility

  • Career & Organizational Growth: Lead the talent strategy for the US MPM team, ensuring robust training, certifications, and a clear career growth trajectory for team members

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of overall experience in managing teams, coordinating projects across multiple organizations/global functional teams with at least 6-8 years in email marketing

  • Deep Domain Expertise in Marketing Automation: Comprehensive understanding of the technical requirements needed for global campaign execution (e.g., audience signals, dynamic content logic, and deliverability governance)

  • MarTech Proficiency: Familiarity with enterprise marketing tools (e.g., Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Marketo)

  • Expert Stakeholder Management: Proven track record of managing and influencing executive-level stakeholders (Directors/VPs) within a highly matrixed global organization

  • Strategic Pipeline Oversight: Demonstrated ability to manage high-volume project intake and resource capacity planning across multiple business units

  • Business Acumen: Experience in managing operational metrics, capacity alignment, and driving "Business Excellence" initiatives (SOPs, certifications, and process innovation etc)

Benefits

  • We support you with competitive wages and with comprehensive health care including medical, dental and vision coverage

  • We support your family with gender-neutral baby bonding leave, 24-26 week birth-parent maternity leave, and generous life, accident and disability insurance minimums

  • Employees who work onsite can enjoy free meals and snacks, and fun onsite experiences
