Job Summary

Serve as a technical subject matter expert for NOV's Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) systems, providing advanced technical support to internal teams and customers. This role supports complex MPD operations through system analysis, performance optimization, troubleshooting, and integration support across drilling and automation platforms.

The MPD Specialist acts as a key escalation point for challenging MPD-related issues, supports continuous improvement of MPD products and systems, and contributes technical expertise across planning, execution, and post-operation analysis. This position requires strong understanding of drilling hydraulics, pressure control, and integrated drilling systems, with a focus on safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. MPD System Operator experience is required

 Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical expert for NOV MPD systems, including monitoring, control, and integrated automation solutions.
  • Provide advanced technical support and troubleshooting for complex MPD-related issues, acting as an escalation point for Tier 2 personnel and customers.
  • Analyze MPD system performance, pressure data, and operational trends to identify improvement opportunities and reduce non-productive time (NPT).
  • Support planning and execution of MPD operations by reviewing system configurations, operational procedures, and pressure management strategies.
  • Assist in the detection, analysis, and resolution of pressure events, including kicks, losses, and abnormal well behavior, using real-time monitoring tools and system diagnostics.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product management, and operations teams to support MPD product enhancements, system integration, and performance optimization.
  • Contribute to development and improvement of MPD equipment, software, and control systems, including early kick and loss detection (EKLD) capabilities.
  • Support system integration activities involving MPD equipment, rig control systems, and automation platforms.
  • Review field feedback and operational data to support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical input for documentation, procedures, training materials, and best practices related to MPD operations.
  • Perform competitive and technical analysis of MPD technologies, systems, and industry practices.
  • Comply with all NOV Company policies and HSE requirements.

 Education & Experience Qualifications

  • Technical diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in drilling operations, MPD systems including Operating the system, well control, rig automation, or related oilfield technologies.
  • Working knowledge of drilling hydraulics, pressure management concepts, and well control principles.
  • Experience supporting or working with MPD equipment, control systems, or real-time monitoring systems preferred.
  • Strong technical analysis, troubleshooting, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and instrumentation drawings.
  • Comfortable working across multidisciplinary technical areas, including drilling operations, automation, and control systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multinational teams across multiple time zones.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interface with customers, operations personnel, and internal technical teams.

 Preferred Skills & Competencies (optional but recommended)

  • Experience with integrated MPD systems, automated drilling controls, or real-time drilling optimization tools.
  • Familiarity with early kick and loss detection (EKLD) systems.
  • Offshore or rig-site experience supporting drilling or pressure control operations.
  • Understanding of MPD specialty equipment such as rotating control devices (RCD/ACD), choke manifolds, flow measurement systems, and pressure control hardware.
