What is offshore automation?

Offshore automation jobs involve designing, installing, and maintaining automated systems on offshore platforms, such as oil rigs or wind farms. Professionals in this field work to improve the efficiency, safety, and reliability of operations by integrating automated technologies like sensors, control systems, and robotics. These roles often require expertise in engineering, programming, and troubleshooting complex machinery. Offshore automation specialists may work in challenging environments and collaborate closely with other engineers and technicians to ensure seamless operation of critical processes.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an offshore automation engineer?

To thrive as an Offshore Automation Engineer, you need a solid background in control systems, instrumentation, and electrical engineering, often supported by a relevant engineering degree or diploma. Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and certifications like CompEx or IECEx are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills for excelling in this role. These competencies ensure safe and efficient operation of offshore facilities, minimize downtime, and support compliance with strict industry regulations.

What are common challenges faced by offshore automation engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Offshore Automation Engineers often encounter challenges such as adapting to harsh and variable environmental conditions, ensuring reliable remote communication with onshore teams, and maintaining complex automated systems with limited onsite resources. These challenges can be addressed by thorough pre-deployment planning, regular remote diagnostics, and strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Continuous training and adherence to safety protocols are also essential for troubleshooting and minimizing downtime in offshore operations.

Job description

About the Role
The Vice President of Quality Assurance is a senior executive leader reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, responsible for shaping and executing (Hexure, now a part of iCapital's) company-wide quality vision and strategy. As a member of the senior leadership team, this individual will set the standard for engineering excellence, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and build a world-class quality organization. This position partners closely with product, engineering, and security leaders to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle and align QA initiatives with organizational goals, regulatory obligations, and customer expectations.
Responsibilities
  • Define and execute Hexure's quality assurance vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap, embedding an AI-first testing philosophy aligned with the company's overall product and platform objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing, geographically distributed team of quality managers and test engineers across US and India locations, driving skill development, career growth, and strong team retention.
  • Drive the implementation of robust quality processes, policies, and metrics across all product lines to ensure consistent and measurable results.
  • Lead the adoption of AI-powered test generation, intelligent test selection, and predictive defect detection alongside modern automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines to accelerate delivery velocity and increase release confidence.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and security leaders to embed quality and compliance rigor throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirements through release and post-production monitoring in alignment with SOC 2, SDLC governance, and insurance regulatory standards.
  • Represent the firm as a thought leader in the QA and test engineering industry, participating in industry forums, conferences, and partnerships.
  • Own quality assurance coverage for carrier and distributor integration touchpoints, ensuring reliability of data exchange, API contracts, and end-to-end workflows across the platform ecosystem, including FireLight, ForeSight, Vive, and IXN.
  • Define and monitor quality KPIs, including defect escape rate, automation coverage, nonfunctional test results (performance, security, scalability), and release readiness metrics to drive accountability and demonstrate measurable impact on business outcomes.

Qualifications
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in software development, quality assurance, or technology leadership roles, with at least 5 years in a senior management or executive capacity
  • Expertise in Agile and Scrum methodologies and proven success leading QA teams in fast-paced, iterative development environments
  • Hands-on experience leveraging AI-assisted testing tools (i.e. test case generation, intelligent regression selection, anomaly detection) and a track record of measurably increasing automation coverage and reducing manual testing overhead
  • Strong background in testing enterprise SaaS applications, including nonfunctional testing disciplines (performance, security, scalability, availability) and experience supporting SOC 2 or similar compliance audit evidence
  • Industry knowledge of Life Insurance and Annuities is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, geographically distributed teams including offshore engineering centers in India, fostering a culture of high performance, innovation, and retention across time zones
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills at all organizational levels

Benefits
The base salary range for this role is $130,000 to $160,000. iCapital offers a compensation package which includes salary, equity for all full-time employees, and an annual performance bonus. Employees also receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes an employer matched retirement plan, generously subsidized healthcare with 100% employer paid dental, vision, telemedicine, and virtual mental health counseling, parental leave, and unlimited paid time off (PTO).
