Summary

A growing multifamily builder and developer is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to oversee accounting operations across a large pipeline of multifamily construction projects. This role is responsible for leading accounting processes, managing financial reporting, and supporting project teams across active ground-up developments.

The ideal candidate has strong construction accounting experience and hands-on knowledge of Sage accounting systems within a fast-paced construction environment.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations for construction and development projects
  • Oversee monthly financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting
  • Manage project accounting, job cost reporting, and WIP schedules
  • Supervise AP, AR, payroll, and accounting staff
  • Maintain and improve accounting procedures and internal controls
  • Oversee project billing, lien releases, and subcontractor compliance
  • Manage cash flow, forecasting, and financial reporting for leadership
  • Ensure accurate cost coding and project financial tracking
  • Work closely with operations and project teams on budgets and cost visibility
  • Support audits, tax preparation, and year-end reporting

Requirements
  • 10+ years of accounting experience within construction required
  • Strong Sage experience required
  • Experience with multifamily or construction accounting strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP schedules, and project financials
  • Experience leading accounting teams
  • Knowledge of AP, AR, payroll, and financial reporting
  • Strong Excel and accounting software skills
  • CPA preferred but not required
