Division Chief, Sleep Medicine
Department of Medicine
Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University (EVMS-ODU)
The Department of Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University (EVMS-ODU) invites applications for the position of Division Chief of Sleep Medicine. This is an outstanding opportunity for a motivated academic clinician-educator to provide leadership to a growing division within a dynamic and collaborative academic medical environment.
The Division of Sleep Medicine is a small but highly engaged program with an established ACGME-accredited Sleep Medicine Fellowship. The incoming Division Chief will play a central role in shaping the strategic direction of the division, with primary responsibility for overseeing and advancing its clinical, educational, and scholarly missions.
The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership in clinical operations, mentor residents, fellows, and faculty, and contribute meaningfully to medical education across undergraduate and graduate levels. There is strong institutional support for innovation in education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and development of academic programs aligned with population health and health systems priorities.
Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership and administrative oversight for the Division of Sleep Medicine.
  • Direct and enhance the educational mission, including leadership of the Sleep Medicine Fellowship.
  • Oversee clinical activities and ensure high-quality, patient-centered sleep care.
  • Mentor faculty and trainees and foster a culture of academic excellence.
  • Participate in scholarly activity consistent with academic rank and interests.

Qualifications
  • MD or DO with board certification or eligibility in Sleep Medicine.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, preferably in an academic or academic-affiliated setting.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Demonstrated commitment to education, clinical excellence, and academic leadership.
  • Experience with fellowship training and curriculum development is highly desirable.

Academic Appointment
The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant, Associate Professor or Professor,
commensurate with experience and qualifications, with opportunities for leadership development within the Department of Medicine.
