Position Summary:Cable Product Engineer

Location: Nashua, NH

The Twin-Ax Cable Product Engineer is the technical owner for high-speed copper cable assemblies, responsible for ensuring mechanical reliability, electrical performance, manufacturability, and long-term product integrity. This role blends hands-on engineering, data-driven analysis, cross-functional collaboration, and customer-facing technical support. You will guide products from concept through NPI, validation, and volume manufacturing while driving continuous improvement across materials, processes, and performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Product Ownership & Technical Leadership
  • Serve as the technical expert for Twin-Ax cable and cable assemblies, ensuring product quality, reliability, and mechanical integrity.
  • Maintain and manage product documentation, specifications, test plans, and qualification records. Working with outside suppliers as well as internal documentation.
  • Lead tolerance analysis, FEA, material evaluations, and failure analysis for cable and connector components.
  • Identify and integrate new materials, manufacturing methods, and enabling technologies into product designs.
Design, Development & Validation
  • Plan and execute Phase Gate/NPI activities including design, prototype builds, validation testing, and pilot production.
  • Collaborate with the Signal Integrity team to optimize cable performance and reliability.
  • Support fixture design, test development, and qualification activities for new and derivative products.
  • Analyze mechanical and performance data using Excel, Minitab, Matlab/Octave, and AI-assisted tools to drive insights and improvements.
Manufacturing & Global Operations Support
  • Partner with internal and external manufacturing teams to validate processes, resolve issues, and ensure robust volume production.
  • Support smooth transitions from development to high-volume manufacturing, including low-cost region factories.
  • Participate in quality investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
Customer & Cross-Functional Engagement
  • Act as a technical liaison for internal CBS Engineering with customers as well as outside suppliers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Provide clear communication through presentations, visuals, reports, and direct customer interaction.
  • Benchmark product performance and drive cost-reduction, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 35+ years of experience in interconnects, high-speed cables, or electronic product design for manufacturing.
  • Proficiency with CAD (Pro/E/Creo), FEA tools, and mechanical analysis methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience using Excel, Minitab, Matlab/Octave, or similar tools.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T and mechanical design fundamentals.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel ~10% domestically and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with copper alloys, high-performance thermoplastics, or cable materials.
  • Familiarity with high-speed electrical connectors or cable assembly design.
  • Hands-on approach to engineering problem-solving and product validation.
  • Experience supporting global manufacturing operations.
