What does OCONUS Japan mean?

OCONUS stands for 'Outside the Continental United States.' When a job listing mentions 'OCONUS Japan,' it refers to positions located in Japan that are outside of the mainland United States, often related to U.S. government, military, or contractor roles. These jobs may involve supporting U.S. operations, military bases, or diplomatic missions in Japan. Working OCONUS typically requires additional considerations such as visa requirements, overseas allowances, and adaptation to a different culture and work environment.

Professionals working in OCONUS roles in Japan often encounter challenges such as navigating cultural differences, adapting to local business practices, and managing time zone differences with headquarters or clients abroad.
