How does an OCM Manager typically collaborate with project teams during organizational change initiatives?

An OCM (Organizational Change Management) Manager works closely with project managers, HR, communications teams, and business stakeholders to ensure smooth adoption of change initiatives. They facilitate workshops, develop communication strategies, and provide training to prepare employees for transitions. OCM Managers are often the bridge between technical teams implementing change and the end users, ensuring concerns are addressed and feedback is incorporated. Effective collaboration helps minimize resistance and maximizes project success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an OCM Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an OCM Manager, you need expertise in change management methodologies, project management, and a solid understanding of organizational behavior, often supported by a relevant degree and certifications like Prosci or ACMP. Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, project management platforms (e.g., Asana, Jira), and change impact assessment tools is common. Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure smooth transitions, high adoption rates, and successful implementation of organizational changes.

Job description

Job Title: IT Project Manager (Enterprise Programs & Governance)
Role Overview
An organization is seeking a strategic, highly organized, and assertive IT Project Manager to drive complex, enterprise-level technology initiatives. In this role, you will serve as the central orchestrator between business resources, technical delivery teams, executive sponsors, steering committees, and governance councils.
This is a governance-focused project management role requiring deep expertise in integrated schedule management, effort-based estimation, and critical chain/critical path analysis. You will craft project charters, manage cross-functional dependencies, facilitate formal project reviews (such as Quality Review Boards and peer assessments), and ensure seamless execution of Organizational Change Management (OCM) plans. If you excel at aligning technical delivery with strategic business objectives and driving accountability across all organizational levels, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Governance & Stakeholder Management
• Executive Communication: Manage communication channels across business resources, project sponsors, steering committees, and governance councils.
• Project Chartering: Craft, maintain, and socialize project charters, defining scope, objectives, roles, and responsibilities.
• Portfolio Alignment: Communicate project scope changes, budget variances, and timeline impacts upstream to portfolio managers.
Scheduling & Effort Estimation
• Integrated Timelines: Build and maintain comprehensive, resource-driven project schedules incorporating cross-team dependencies, effort allocations, and critical path analysis.
• Effort-Based Estimation: Solicit and evaluate work estimates based strictly on net effort rather than duration, ensuring accurate capacity planning and buffer management.
• Prioritization: Leverage critical chain insights to guide project teams and leaders on backlog prioritization and resource adjustments.
Lifecycle Quality & OCM Execution
• Review Facilitation: Accountable for facilitating formal project governance processes, including Quality Review Boards (QRBs), peer reviews, timeline risk analyses, and lessons-learned sessions.
• Change Management: Integrate and execute Organizational Change Management (OCM) frameworks as a core component of the overarching project plan.
• Regulatory Awareness: Maintain a strong understanding of regulatory, legal, and quality compliance requirements impacting the business area, ensuring all project tasks align accordingly.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Experience Baseline: Minimum of 5 to 7 years of professional experience managing complex IT software, infrastructure, or enterprise system implementation projects.
• Methodology Mastery:
oProven expertise in building resource-loaded schedules, managing effort-driven timelines, and applying critical path/critical chain methodologies.
oStrong experience facilitating formal project governance gates, quality reviews, and risk assessments.
oDemonstrated success executing Organizational Change Management (OCM) strategies within technical programs.
• Core Competencies: Exceptional executive presence; superior stakeholder influence, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills; excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Preferred Attributes
• Professional project management certifications (e.g., PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, or equivalent).
• Experience operating within regulated industries or quality-sensitive corporate environments.
