We are seeking a skilled and motivated Occupational Health Nurse (RN) to join our Product Support & Logistics Division in Waco, Texas. In this role, you will serve as a highly autonomous occupational health professional responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing services in support of employee health, safety, wellness, disability management, and regulatory compliance.

As a key member of the Corporate Medical team, you will collaborate with Operations, EH&S, Human Resources, Compensation & Benefits, and healthcare providers to ensure employees receive exceptional occupational health support throughout their employment lifecycle.

Job Summary

The Occupational Health Nurse functions as an advanced nurse generalist applying clinical occupational nursing practices in a manufacturing and logistics environment. This role is responsible for employee injury and illness management, emergency medical response, health coaching, disability and leave administration support, ADA/FMLA compliance coordination, case management, wellness promotion, and return-to-work programs.

This position requires independent clinical decision-making, exceptional critical thinking skills, and the ability to influence workplace health outcomes while supporting Caterpillar's commitment to employee safety and operational excellence. The successful candidate must also be willing to participate in an on-call rotation to support occupational health needs, workplace incidents, and emergency response activities outside of regular business hours as required.

Key Responsibilities Occupational Health & Clinical Care
  • Deliver comprehensive occupational nursing services related to workplace injuries and illnesses.
  • Function autonomously while managing a broad range of clinical situations.
  • Conduct nursing assessments, recommendations, and employee health evaluations.
  • Provide occupational health consultations, health coaching, and care referrals.
  • Assist occupational physicians with employee evaluations and return-to-work determinations.
  • Deliver first aid and emergency care when required.
  • Lead and coordinate on-site medical emergency response efforts.
  • Maintain readiness for emergency situations and workplace incidents.
Disability & Leave Management
  • Provide case management support for employees on medical leave of absence.
  • Evaluate medical documentation supporting leaves, restrictions, and accommodations.
  • Support disability management programs and return-to-work initiatives.
  • Collaborate with HR and Compensation & Benefits teams regarding disability plans and payroll-related policies.
  • Provide guidance related to Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requirements.
  • Support compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations and return-to-work processes.
Employee Health & Wellness
  • Promote employee wellness, prevention programs, and healthy workplace practices.
  • Serve as a trusted clinical resource to employees and business leaders.
  • Deliver health education and wellness initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve employee health outcomes.
  • Support behavioral health and employee assistance referrals when appropriate.
Medical Records & Regulatory Compliance
  • Serve as the HIPAA-compliant custodian and liaison for employee medical information.
  • Maintain accurate and complete occupational health records and databases.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, ADA, FMLA, and applicable regulations.
  • Support health surveillance and occupational medical monitoring programs.
  • Represent Corporate Medical policies and standards within the facility.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve occupational health programs and processes.
  • Support innovation and implementation of best-in-class occupational medical practices.
  • Participate in disability management process improvements.
  • Collaborate across multiple business functions to improve workforce health outcomes.
Required Skills Education & Licensure
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.
  • Accredited Registered Nurse degree.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
Experience
  • Minimum 2-4 years of nursing experience in:

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic medical record systems.

  • Knowledge of OSHA, ADA, HIPAA, FMLA, and occupational health regulations.
  • Emergency response and clinical assessment skills.

  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN or COHN-S).
  • Workers' Compensation case management experience.
  • Leave administration experience involving ADA and FMLA.
  • Knowledge of disability management programs.
  • Experience supporting return-to-work and accommodation programs.
  • Experience leading workplace emergency response initiatives.
  • Familiarity with industrial risk assessments and workplace ergonomics.

Summary Pay Range:

$81,370.00 - $122,060.00
