As of Aug 15, 2026, the average hourly pay for obgyn salaries in the United States is $129.94, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $120.19 and $129.81 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Obgyn, and why are they important?

To thrive as an OB-GYN, you need a medical doctorate (MD or DO), completion of an OB-GYN residency, and board certification in obstetrics and gynecology. Expertise in ultrasound, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and surgical tools is commonly required. Strong communication, empathy, and decision-making skills help OB-GYNs connect with patients and manage sensitive situations. These competencies are essential to provide high-quality reproductive healthcare, ensure patient safety, and build trust with patients.

What are some common challenges Obgyns face in balancing patient care with administrative responsibilities?

OBGYNs often manage a high volume of patients and must balance hands-on clinical care with significant administrative duties, such as updating medical records, handling insurance paperwork, and staying compliant with healthcare regulations. This dual responsibility can be challenging, especially when urgent cases or deliveries arise unexpectedly. Many practices use electronic health records (EHRs) and support staff to help streamline workflow, but time management and prioritization remain essential skills for success in this role.
