Job description

Sentara Medical Group is seeking a Board-Certified Obesity Medicine Physician to join our outpatient Comprehensive Weight Loss Solutions team in the Kempsville area of Norfolk, Virginia, bordering on the city of Virginia Beach. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact in patients lives while working alongside an experienced, collaborative, and multidisciplinary care team dedicated to long-term weight management success through both surgical and non-surgical approaches. Position Highlights:

  • Full-time, outpatient-only Bariatric Medicine position

  • M-F, 8am 5pm, some afterhours call may be required - no weekends

  • Work alongside 2 experienced physicians and 5 experienced APPs

  • Established patient base with a waiting list rapid panel build

  • Diverse and high complexity case mix, including pre and post bariatric surgery patients, medical weight management, and chronic disease optimization

Leadership & Strategic Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will embrace a leadership-forward role, including:

  • Supervision and clinical mentorship of experienced APPs, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based obesity care

  • Vision-setting for the role of obesity medicine across the region/system, helping shape program growth, care pathways, and integration with primary care, endocrinology, bariatric surgery, and other specialties

  • Participation in program development, quality improvement, and strategic initiatives

  • Contribution to regional education, including provider training and community engagement related to obesity care

This leadership component elevates the position beyond a traditional clinical role and aligns with candidate expectations seen in high-demand obesity medicine markets.

Patient Panel Description:

This role manages a robust, high complexity panel of adults with obesity and related metabolic conditions, including:

  • Patients pursuing non surgical medical weight management

  • Optimizing individuals in the pre operative evaluation phase for bariatric surgery

  • Post operative longitudinal follow up patients (nutrition, weight regain prevention, comorbidity management)

  • Patients with multiple obesity related comorbidities, including diabetes, hypertension, NASH, OSA, and cardiovascular risk disorders

  • Individuals requiring intensive lifestyle intervention, anti obesity pharmacotherapy, and chronic disease optimization
