The SCA's Architecture and Engineering Department is responsible for development of scope, design, and construction documents for new school buildings, additions, lease conversions and renovation work of existing schools for New York City's approximately 1.1 million students. Our projects are intentionally and thoughtfully designed; positive impact design is at the forefront of all our projects.
Our In-House studio is a multidisciplinary practice that is responsible for designing some of the largest and most complex schools in our 1,500+ school portfolio as well as renovation work to existing schools. Our other two studios manage external consultants from design inception to completion. Our three studios are comprised of talented architects and engineers who are driven to deliver high quality custom designed, sustainable, and resilient public schools.

Job Description Summary
The Sr. Design Project Manager (Architecture & Engineering) reports to an A/E Director or Design Manager of Operations & Small Business Consulting Unit Studio. The Program Manager is responsible of performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, to achieve the objectives of the Authority.
Job Description
Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee and manage, assigned staff and consultants, including workload distribution, maintenance of assignment logs and performance evaluations for consultants.
  • Support and assist the Design Manager in managing DOPP and none DOPP consultants and overseeing the design process to ensure alignment with SCA objectives and standards.
  • Coordinate and lead meetings with SCA departments, client agencies, and external consultants/contractors to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Lead and/or participate in negotiations and mediations; review, evaluate, and recommend proposed settlements, including additional services, for management approval.
  • Review and recommend approval of consultant expenditures; oversee and negotiate consultant fees, additional services, and schedule adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with project schedules, budgets, applicable codes, standards, and SCA requirements, track and secure approvals from all regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee day-to-day project activities and resolve complex managerial, administrative, and operational issues.
  • Monitor and track the status of RFIs, shop drawings, and other submittals; ensure timely review and response in accordance with SCA standards.
  • Conduct site visits/observations and ensure preparation and distribution of field reports.
  • Review and evaluate design documents for quality, constructability, value engineering, commissioning, phasing, and adherence to SCA design criteria.
  • Support the development and implementation of SCA technical standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Assist senior management with special projects, initiatives, and process improvements.
  • Perform related duties, as assigned.

Preferred Education / Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering. Professional licensure as a registered Architect or Professional Engineer is preferred.

Required Qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate degree
  • Eight years of full-time work experience participating in the negotiation, mediation, assessment and/or evaluation of costs associated with construction projects' components; four years must be in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
