Job description

ETFs are one of the most dynamic areas of growth and innovation at Nuveen, and the Capital Markets team sits at the center of that momentum. Operating within the ETF department, the team serves as the primary hub connecting internal partners - including Portfolio Management, Trading, Operations, Technology, Sales, and Marketing - with the broader ETF ecosystem of Market Makers, Authorized Participants, Exchanges, and trading platforms.
This Vice President role is purpose-built for a professional who brings both deep technical expertise in ETF market mechanics and the strategic instincts to grow a competitive platform. You will maintain hands-on engagement with daily capital markets operations - including creation/redemption workflows and custom basket rebalancing - while taking primary ownership of Nuveen's most important external partnerships and distribution enablement infrastructure. This dual mandate is intentional: it ensures that ecosystem relationships are managed by someone who understands the operational realities underlying them, and that the distribution organization is supported by a subject matter expert who can translate complex market structure concepts into clear, actionable guidance for advisors and clients.
The role offers meaningful visibility across Nuveen's ETF business, with direct engagement across senior leadership, key external partners, and distribution teams. For the right candidate, it represents a clear and accelerated path toward a senior leadership position within ETF capital markets.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Own and develop Nuveen's strategic relationships across the ETF ecosystem - including exchanges, major trading platforms, lead market makers, and authorized participants - executing a relationship strategy that promotes efficient primary and secondary market activity and strengthens Nuveen's competitive positioning.
  • Serve as a senior ETF subject matter expert for Nuveen's Global Strategic Relationship and Enterprise RIA distribution teams, providing technical depth and capital markets expertise to support client due diligence, RFP processes, and advisor engagement.
  • Maintain active proficiency in and serve as backup coverage for Nuveen's ETF creation and redemption process, including custom in-kind basket construction and portfolio rebalancing, in close collaboration with Portfolio Management, Trading, and Authorized Participant teams.
  • Monitor ETF market quality indicators - including trading volumes, bid-ask spreads, and premiums and discounts to NAV - and take proactive steps to address liquidity or trading issues across the platform.
  • Drive cohesion across marketing strategy, competitive positioning, and wholesaler enablement by developing and maintaining ETF sales support materials including trading guides, product positioning documents, model portfolio integration resources, and advisor education content.
  • Represent Nuveen externally at industry forums, exchange working groups, and ecosystem dialogue on market structure developments, feeding market intelligence back into product development and distribution strategy.
  • Partner with Portfolio Management, Trading, Operations, Marketing, and Sales on ETF product launches, platform enhancements, and strategic initiatives, including new fund launch protocol and exchange listing coordination.
  • Develop and deliver regular reporting on capital markets metrics, flow analysis, market quality indicators, and ecosystem relationship activity to ETF leadership and internal stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous development within the Capital Markets team.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain strategic external relationships with broker-dealers, exchanges, platforms, or institutional counterparties.
  • Strong commercial instincts with the ability to translate complex capital markets concepts into advisor-facing education and sales support materials.
