Optimus Health Care, the largest provider of primary care services in Fairfield County, is seeking a WIC Program Assistant to join our team in Stamford, CT. If you are passionate about patient care and thrive in a fast-paced, community-focused environment, we encourage you to apply.


Position Summary

The WIC Program Assistant is an integral member of the WIC team, working collaboratively with the Nutritionist, Nutrition Aide, and Director of Nutrition Services to ensure efficient client flow and high-quality service delivery.


Key Responsibilities
  • Greet and assist clients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner

  • Answer phones and respond to inquiries regarding WIC services, appointments, and benefits

  • Schedule, reschedule, and manage participant appointments in the CT-WIC system

  • Screen and interview applicants to collect demographic and eligibility information

  • Verify identity, residency, and income in accordance with federal and state regulations

  • Enter and maintain accurate participant data in CT-WIC

  • Issue WIC benefits, eWIC cards, and provide program materials (ID cards, food/vendor lists)

  • Educate participants on WIC services, rights, responsibilities, and program guidelines

  • Maintain participant records with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality

  • Conduct follow-up calls for missed appointments and outreach reports

  • Provide referrals to Medicaid, SNAP, and other health and social service programs

  • Support breastfeeding promotion efforts as appropriate

  • Assist with outreach activities, educational materials, and community events

  • Monitor assigned reports and respond to quality assurance feedback

  • Participate in required trainings and continuing education sessions

  • Perform other administrative and program-related duties as assigned


Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma required

  • At least two (2) years of experience working in a medical office or at least one (1) year of experience working in a WIC setting. Experience in health care or community facility preferred.

  • The ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing in English and another language when the Director of Nutrition Services or Program Nutritionist deems appropriate.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

  • Proficient in basic computer and data entry functions

  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
