What are nursing support roles?

Nursing support roles refer to a variety of positions that assist registered nurses and other healthcare professionals in providing patient care. These roles can include nursing assistants, patient care technicians, orderlies, and similar positions. Nursing support staff help with daily patient needs such as bathing, dressing, feeding, taking vital signs, and transporting patients. They play a critical role in ensuring patients' comfort and safety, and their work allows nurses to focus on more complex medical tasks. These roles often require compassion, attention to detail, and strong communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Nursing Support, and why are they important?

To thrive in Nursing Support, you need foundational knowledge of patient care procedures, basic medical terminology, and typically a high school diploma or completion of a nursing assistant program. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), vital sign monitoring equipment, and basic patient care tools is important. Compassion, teamwork, and strong communication skills help you effectively support patients and collaborate with nursing staff. These skills ensure efficient patient care, safety, and a supportive environment that enhances the overall healthcare experience.
