Job description

SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Simulation Clinical Lab Assistant provides technical and operational support for the day-to-day activities of the nursing simulation and skills laboratories. Under the direction of the Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator, the position prepares laboratory spaces, equipment, supplies, and simulation technology for scheduled instruction; operates patient simulators; provides routine technical assistance; and performs basic equipment checks, troubleshooting, cleaning, and maintenance. The position collaborates with the coordinator and nursing and health sciences faculty to support established simulation and skills laboratory activities.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A. The Simulation Clinical Lab Assistant reports to the Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator.

B. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities for other employees.

C. The Simulation Clinical Lab Assistant works collaboratively with the Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator, nursing and health sciences faculty and staff, and other college personnel as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Operates patient simulators, clinical equipment, audiovisual systems, computer-based instructional tools, and other simulation technologies used in scheduled laboratory and simulation activities.

B. Prepares simulation and skills laboratory spaces, equipment, supplies, and materials for scheduled instructional activities in accordance with established procedures and faculty direction.

C. Assists nursing faculty with the technical and operational implementation of scheduled skills laboratory and simulation activities, including operating patient simulators and running pre-programmed scenarios as directed.

D. Provides routine technical assistance to faculty and staff with the operation and appropriate use of simulation equipment, clinical equipment, and related technologies.

E. Performs routine operational checks, basic troubleshooting, cleaning, and care of simulation equipment, clinical equipment, safety equipment, and laboratory resources in accordance with established procedures and manufacturer recommendations.

F. Documents equipment malfunctions, technical issues, repairs, and service needs and reports unresolved problems to the Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator or appropriate technical support personnel.

G. Assists with the technical preparation, testing, and implementation of simulation scenarios developed by nursing faculty and/or the Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator.

H. Assists faculty with the preparation, organization, and placement of equipment, supplies, and materials required for scheduled skills laboratory and simulation activities.

I. Assists with receiving, organizing, labeling, storing, maintaining, and conducting routine inventory of simulation equipment, clinical equipment, supplies, and laboratory materials; reports shortages, damage, or discrepancies to the Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator.

J. Assists with routine equipment maintenance activities and prepares equipment for vendor or manufacturer service as directed by the Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator.

K. Maintains laboratory spaces in a clean, organized, and orderly condition and follows established institutional safety, infection prevention, equipment operating, and laboratory procedures.

L. Assists with demonstrations, facility tours, special events, and other approved activities utilizing the nursing simulation and skills laboratories.

M. Participates in training and professional development activities related to patient simulators, simulation technologies, clinical equipment, and laboratory operations.

N. Assists with special projects and operational activities related to the nursing simulation and skills laboratories as assigned by the Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator.

O. Performs other duties as assigned.
