JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/ Objective
East Side House (ESH) is a community resource in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their community. ESH's, Learn to Work Program aligns with our mission by providing high quality programs and services within community centers and school partnerships.
Reporting to the Assistant Director and Program Director, the Student Advisor provides individualized socio-emotional support, career counseling, and college preparation to help students succeed after high school. As a member of the Learning to Work (LTW) Program at George Washington YABC, you will manage a student caseload, drive outreach initiatives, and collaborate closely with NYC Department of Education (DOE) staff to support students and their families.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director and Program Director, the Student Advisor, will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
• Be a primary person of contact for a caseload of approximately 60-70 students.
• Conduct daily attendance, academic, and social-emotional outreach via phone, email, and/or person.
• Conduct intake interviews with students and family members.
• Refer students to academic and support services as needed.
• Consult with guidance counselors on student credit accumulation, graduation date, and post-secondary plans.
• Consult with teachers and provide feedback to students on academic performance.
• Maintain student charts and records to ensure milestones are being met.
• Refer students to academic and support services as needed.
• Attend administrative meetings, program trainings and staff development. Meetings may require virtual attendance.
• Meet with caseload in a group or individual setting to assist them in their academic, career and personal goals. Some individual and group work will require usage of remote platforms.
• Conduct workshops, social-emotional groups, interest groups, or other groups for caseload.
• Educating students and parents about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing; advising students and families as they go through the process; and helping students and families aspire realistically and choose wisely.
• Walk students through FAFSA and college applications.
• Walk students through employment opportunities.
• Conduct informal counseling sessions for students to support their social-emotional development.
• Document all interactions with students on Salesforce, Google Suite, and other data systems as required.
• Participate in civic and community building efforts and activities as assigned via East Side House Community Development.
• Participate and help arrange field trips, special events and extracurricular activities.
• Managing alumni events and data tracking.
• Manage social networks for the purpose of keeping in touch with alumni.
• Provide other program support functions as required.
• Maintain flexible hours and workdays, some overnight trips required.

Qualifications
To perform this position successfully, the Student Advisor must be able to fulfill all the elements of the job description to the highest standard and be able to work well with colleagues in a high energy and collaborative work environment. Additional qualifications include:
Education / Experience
• Minimum B.A/ B.S.W. degree is required with at least two years youth services experience.
• Excellent verbal, analytical, writing, communication, organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and multi-task.
• Strong interpersonal skills and time management skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of community service/ development.
• Knowledge and experience in WordPerfect/ Microsoft Word / Google Suite, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other applications.

Expected Work Schedule The work schedule expected for this position is: Monday - Thursday 1 p.m. - 9 p.m., Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
as aligned to the needs of the program/ service. The schedule may be adjusted based on ESH's operational needs, with notice provided whenever possible.
