Title: Director Nursing Operations

Location: Manhattan, with travel to locations in the Bronx and Brooklyn

Salary Range: $170,000 - 180,000

Overall Responsibilities:

The Director of Nursing Operations is responsible for directing, managing, and coordinating nursing services for clients across all Healthcare services delivered in shelters, housing, primary care and substance use programs. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Director of Nursing is part of the healthcare leadership team and collaborates with the Medical Directors of Primary Care, Psychiatry and Addiction/Drug User Health, the Director of Clinical Operations, and shelter/housing program leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential duties of the Director Nursing Operations include but are not limited to the following activities:

Clinical:

  • Oversees the management of all medication systems for all Nurses including processes for receiving and reviewing prescriptions and medications, ordering medications, safe storage of medications, ensuring that clients have supply and access to medications
  • Provides oversight for nursing workflows and processes in the medical clinics
  • Provides oversight as nurses monitor for side effects and report to prescribing providers
  • Oversees the process to assess each client’s knowledge of medications and ability to self-administer medications
  • Provides medication teaching as needed to RNs, LPNs and facility staff
  • Participates in program high risk meetings, based on availability and need
  • Assists in triaging psychiatric, medical and substance use challenges to appropriate providers
  • Communicates regularly with on-site psychiatric and medical providers, and case managers
  • Communicates with off-site psychiatric and medical providers as necessary and appropriate

Staffing/Supervision:

  • Directly manages and provides clinical & administrative supervision to all Nurse Managers
  • In collaboration with Nurse Managers, manages and provides clinical supervision to all LPNs, RNs, and MAs within the Healthcare Department
  • Provides ongoing health education and support to nursing staff
  • With support from administrative staff, recruit, hire, and train nursing staff
  • Schedules regular on-site team meetings of the nursing staff to promote high quality health care to our clients and to act as a liaison for the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Healthcare Operations and Planning.
  • Develops in-service educational programs for staff
  • Responsible for scheduling nursing across all our sites in coordination with the Director of Health Operations
  • Evaluates the performance of nursing staff on a regular basis using chart reviews, client survey results, and other performance tools

Quality Assurance and Program Development:

  • Collaborates with leads for clinical quality improvement and quality assurance to assess and improve medication management
  • Establishes and maintains quality assurance workflows for all functions of nursing
  • Maintains documentation in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Manages requirements for audits, grants and reports as requested by funding agencies and regulating entities
  • Works closely with the rest of the Healthcare Leadership team to develop systems for healthcare within Project Renewal
  • Collaborates with Project Renewal leadership to promote integration of care and services across all programs

Qualifications:

  • New York State licensed Registered Nurse (RN) or Nurse Practitioner (NP)
  • A strong commitment to providing compassionate and trauma informed comprehensive health care to people experiencing homelessness
  • A strong commitment to working in an integrated interdisciplinary environment
  • 5+ years clinical experience
  • 2+ year supervisory/management experience
  • Experience in Article 28/FQHC settings, with additional experience of OASAS settings a plus
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical records
