Position Summary
St. Thomas Community Health Center is seeking a dedicated and proactive Cardiology Clinic Nurse (RN). This onsite role provides direct, face-to-face support for patients in collaboration with Cardiology providers and supports the daily function and leadership of the medical assistant team including Medical Assistants and Echocardiology. The Nurse plays a vital role in patient education, provider support, and care coordination to ensure our patients receive timely, high-quality, and equitable care.
This is a competitive salary opportunity for RNs, and may also appeal to Registered Nurses who are passionate about community-based care and interested in potential loan repayment eligibility through the HRSA Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program.
Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Clinic Operations

  • Serves as the on-site lead for medical assistants, providing supervision and day-to-day support.
  • Assists in ensuring clinical protocols are followed and contributes to quality improvement efforts within the nursing team.
  • Manage schedules for cardiology providers including cardiac testing performed at St Thomas Heart and Vascular Center.
  • Monitors and balances the appointment schedule to support clinic flow and efficiency.
  • Coordinates additional clinical needs and follow-up appointments to support providers.

Care Coordination & Patient Support

  • Collaborates with providers and care teams to coordinate care and initiate referrals for Cardiology patients.
  • Provides patient education on disease processes, medications, and clinical devices to support self-management.
  • Reinforces medication adherence strategies and offers guidance to patients.

Clinical Procedures & Medication Management

  • Starts peripheral IVs on in-clinic patients.
  • Administers other IV medications to in-clinic patients per provider orders.
  • Manages subcutaneous therapies requiring registry tracking and proactive patient outreach for upcoming doses.
  • Assists providers with prior authorizations for cardiology medications and procedures, including appeals when needed.

Other Duties

  • Attends nursing and general staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Supports and helps review clinic policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates consistent and timely attendance.
  • Promotes positive communication and uses established channels for problem-solving.
  • Assists in documentation of incidents and participates in safety and emergency preparedness drills.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Chief Nursing Officer and Medical Director.
  • Maintains HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications
  • Current RN license in the State of Louisiana.
  • Experience in Cardiology, inpatient and outpatient.
  • Demonstrated experience starting peripheral IVs.
  • Familiarity with IV contrast media, including allergy and adverse reaction management, preferred.
  • Experience with prior authorization processes and payer appeals preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) a plus.
  • Familiarity with EPIC EHR strongly preferred, particularly for maintaining medication registries; not mandatory.
