Job description
Currently recruiting an OB/GYN Laborist in Lakewood, Washington to provide care to Active Duty heroes, their families, and retirees at Madigan Army Medical Center at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. OB/GYN Laborist hours may vary but will be inpatient focused on labor and delivery for 11 to 14 hours for AM or PM shifts several days each week. This work schedule may include solely night shift-type work (from 1900 to 0700) on assigned days or for several shifts each week based on need.
DUTIES OF THE OB/GYN LABORIST:
- OBGYN Laborist will provide OB/GYN care to eligible military healthcare system beneficiaries. Examine, render a medical assessment of their condition, and take appropriate action.
- The OB/GYN HCP providing services under this contract shall have sufficient experience to be able to adequately diagnose, treat, and perform (to include, but not limited to) the following:
- Oral Contraceptive Screening and Prescriptions, counseling
- Diaphragm Fitting Evaluation and Treatment of Vulva, Vaginal, and Cervical Abnormalities
- Have sufficient experience to be able to perform the following medical procedures to include, but not limited to:
- Endometrial and Cervical Biopsies
- Removal of Venereal Warts
- Incision and Drainage of Perineal and/or Vulvar Abscess
- Removal of Cervical Polyps
- Biopsy of Cervix, Endometrium of Vulva
- Dilation and Curettage (including Vacuum)
- Venipuncture
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Provide immediate evaluation and management of emergency patients as they present themselves for care with supervision of residents.
- Prepare appropriate narrative summaries and patient profile changes.
- Prepare and document appropriate history, physical examinations, and preoperative diagnoses.
- Pprovide, as needed, professional advice, consultations, detailed explanations, analyses, and recommendations to members of the medical staff (e.G., emergencies, questionable cases, etc.).
- Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with ARs and MTF policies. Ensure all documentation and reports are legible.
- Deliver routine and Cesarean section births.
- Remain on duty at the end of the normal daily tour of duty and continue to provide required care during emergencies or when in the process of delivering infants.
- Become familiar with the hospital formulary.
- Prescribe pharmaceuticals according to the availability of drugs listed therein. The pharmacy service will provide instruction to all prescribing practitioners on substitutability of generic drugs for prescribed drugs.
- Follow the procedures of the MTF when prescribing drugs.
- Manage labor to include initial evaluation/hospital admission, ongoing assessment of maternal and fetal status, labor progress, need for intervention/consultations, and patient/family education and support.
- Provide inpatient obstetrical care including labor management and vaginal delivery. Starts intravenous infusions;selects and administers appropriate analgesia and anesthesia according to protocols;applies external and internal fetal monitoring equipment;performs local and pudendal anesthesia;performs cervical inspections;performs and repairs episiotomies;repairs lacerations associated with childbirth to include fourth degree perennial lacerations;records the labor and delivery, and signs and completes birth certificates.
- Evaluate and manage immediate obstetric complications.
- Initiate and conduct emergency life-saving procedures. Serves as the attending/staff physician responsible for all care to patients for any emergency procedures to include but not limited to emergent caesarean sections, emergent laparotomy and emergent laparoscopic procedures.
- Provide immediate newborn care, initial physical assessment of the newborn upon delivery, evaluation, and resuscitation as needed.
- Provide postpartum care using a family-centered approach.
- Evaluate and manage the normal postpartum period, to include determining hospital disposition, providing discharge counseling, completing necessary records, and conducting clinic follow-up.
- Provide for education and guidance of medical students, interns and residents in the OB/GYN and Family Practice Programs at the MTF. Provides for the education and training of basic and advanced practice nursing students through affiliations maintained by the MTF. Serves in a teaching capacity in the development of other health care workers as needed.
- Operate computer terminal for patient care, which includes order entry, laboratory and radiological results retrieval, documentation of patient care and professional communication. Also utilizes computer terminals to input statistical data to include number and type of patient encounters, additional duties, etc.
- Degree/Education: Successfully completed a Doctor of Medicine (MD). Graduation from a medical school in the United States, Canada, or approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA), graduation from a college of osteopathy approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or graduation from a medical school with evidence of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification. The DoD only recognizes certifications issued by boards that are members of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the AOA Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists
- Certifications (in addition to Basic Life Support): Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Board Certification: OB/GYN Laborist must be ABOG board certified or board eligible.
- Experience: Shall have a minimum of one year s experience in an active OB/GYN practice within the last two years working as an OB/GYN Physician, post residency training.
- Licensure: Must maintain an unrestricted license in Washington state. Contract workers requiring licensure shall have and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted license specific to the position (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) throughout the duration of the contract worker s performance on the contract. Additional licenses held by a contract worker must be in good standing whether they are inactive, expired, or limit the contract worker s practice to a military setting. The Contractor shall adhere to requirements outlined in the applicable regulation/directive at the place of performance.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen;or a lawful permanent resident authorized to work in the US. (for access to Government computer systems)
