SUMMARY
The Trainee Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) position requires participation in the License Operator Training (LOT) Class, a preparatory program for the job of Operations Unit/Field Supervisor. Successful candidates must make satisfactory progress in preparation for passing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) SRO exam, develop leadership, performance management, and technical skills to perform supervisory job responsibilities, and complete the LOT program.
EDUCATION
โ€ข High School/GED or equivalent (Required)
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Preferred)
EXPERIENCE
Eligible candidates for Senior Reactor Operator must meet 2 years of power plant experience in one of the following categories (Required)
โ€ข At least 12 months' experience as an active licensed reactor operator or senior reactor operator at a commercial reactor (experience at other large-scale reactors may also qualify).
โ€ข At least eighteen months of nuclear military experience in a position equivalent to reactor operator, engineering watch supervisor, or engineering officer of the watch.
โ€ข Bachelor of science degree or equivalent Engineering degree and who have had 18 months experience as plant staff engineers (anyone filling a position that places that individual in the training population of the Engineering Support Personnel accredited training program)
โ€ข Bachelor of science degree or equivalent Engineering degree and who have held responsible positions for at least 18 months as line managers or supervisors or as non-licensed operators at a commercial nuclear plant.
โ€ข Senior reactor operator certified instructor with training & evaluation of licensed operators at a commercial nuclear plant. Maintain skills through training, incl. licensed operator training, in-plant activities, & appropriate time on the simulator.
All candidates should spend at least six (6) months at the facility to comply with ACAD 10-001
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS
โ€ข Driver's license (Required)
โ€ข Maintain NRC license to ensure compliance with all operating standards.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
SRO - TRAINEE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participates in an initial Licensed Operator Training Class as an Instant (Direct) SRO Trainee.
โ€ข Completes all requirements to obtain a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) SRO License.
โ€ข Demonstrates understanding of the concepts, philosophy, and responsibilities with respect to reactivity management and reactor core safety.
โ€ข Demonstrates knowledge of systems and components of controls over which operators have responsibility and control.
โ€ข Performs "On-The-Job" training as appropriate to role and successfully completes required continuing training.
โ€ข Maintains all required position qualifications.
TEAMWORK - CONTROL ROOM SHIFT TEAM:
Effectively controls and coordinates activities and serves as an effective member of the control room shift team.
โ€ข Communicates effectively with team members and constructively manages conflict within the control room shift team and with other plant personnel.
โ€ข Anticipates and recognizes error-like situations and effectively addresses concerns with those involved.
โ€ข Asks questions to obtain needed information to perform the tasks of the job.
โ€ข Follows and supports command, control, and leadership directives and is committed to achieving team and station goals.
โ€ข Engages in self-critique of individual and team performance.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
โ€ข Accept Outage position.
โ€ข Accept ERO position and be able to meet the response requirements.
โ€ข Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access.
โ€ข Successfully complete General Employee Training (GET) as required for position.
SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
โ€ข Ability to pass a license physical exam.
โ€ข Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
โ€ข Ability to use basic algebra to solve formulas used in operations procedures; ability to read and interpret schematics and system drawings.
ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
โ€ข Environmental and physical requirements require the ability to don appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the defined role; subject to crouching, stooping, bending, twisting and/or lifting up to 30+ lbs; ascending/descending stairs; ascending, descending, traversing ladders, scaffolds, stairs; working in confined spaces; moving safely over uneven or slippery terrain; working in proximity to loud equipment and possible inclement weather/temperature conditions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
โ€ข Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed.
โ€ข Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.
โ€ข Ability to work rotating shift in the Plant Control Room. This requires the ability to work under stress.
โ€ข Initial training will be in a classroom environment. Training is intensive and will require study outside of normal working hours.
โ€ข Training will include rotating shift assignments in the plant to complete On-the-Job training requirements and simulator sessions conducted during weekends.

โ€ข Site - Due to the nature of the work, this position requires work to be performed at the work site.
