Job Description

Do you want to support the world's best Navy? Come join our team! This role provides expert leadership in health physics and radiation safety, delivering oversight across radiation health programs, radiological dose assessments, emergency planning, and technical evaluations under both routine and accident conditions. You'll support and maintain local procedures spanning radiation health, dosimetry operations, emergency planning, dose analysis, and radiation detection instrumentation.

You'll manage internal and external monitoring programs, ensuring precise calibration, testing, and qualification of instruments, and directing personnel bioassay, area monitoring, and environmental surveillance. The role also includes performing radiological analyses that support dry storage, repository work, transportation, and other technical operations across NNPP sites, including shipyards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading internal monitoring programs (in?vitro and in?vivo), establishing controls for mixed radionuclide work, evaluating radiation detection equipment, running external monitoring programs, performing dose assessments, and using historical records to prepare exposure histories.

  • Conducting radiological engineering calculations and overseeing technical work documents and characterization plans while partnering with work groups to ensure efficient, compliant execution.

  • Serving in an assigned capacity within the Radiological Emergency Response Organization.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field.

  • Demonstrated ability to author high-quality technical products, e.g., event investigations, data evaluations, and formal correspondence
  • Experience performing statistical analysis
  • Experience in using and evaluating radiation detection equipment
  • Experience performing dose assessments from a variety of data sources (field surveys, direct or excreta measurements)
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

Pay Range
$70,900.00 - $108,500.00 annually
