Civil/Structural Engineering Site Lead, Plant Design Oversight
TerraPower, LLC. is seeking a highly motivated Civil/Structural Engineering Site Lead for the Plant Design Oversight (PDO) team on TerraPower's Natrium advanced nuclear reactor projects. In this role, you will be responsible for the oversight of all civil/structural-related engineering activities for the Nuclear Island (NI), Energy Island (EI), and Balance of Plant (BoP) scope of work. Additionally in this role you will be responsible to coordinate approval of field changes that may occur. The successful candidate will coordinate with construction and engineering teams to ensure field work and changes conform to applicable designs and requirements. Candidates must have extensive experience with on-site engineering support, project coordination, and performing owners' acceptance review.
This role will report to the EPC Plant Design Oversight Senior Manager, but interface and coordinate with on-site TerraPower construction personnel regularly.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with Constructor and TP Construction teams to identify issues that arise during construction.
  • Ensure field issue solutions are identified, reviewed, and approved using project field change processes.
  • Support Constructor and TP Construction teams to facilitate understanding of field changes, ensuring timely and accurate information relay.
  • Coordinate activities of other TP civil/structural engineering personnel that may be located on site temporarily or permanently.
  • Support monitoring and appraisal of design organizations, partners, contractors, and subcontractors' performance to ensure that all technical requirements for the design are effectively and correctly implemented and processes are followed
  • Support design and integration reviews and resolution of cross functional technical issues

Key Qualifications and Skills
  • Education: B.S. degree in Civil engineering or equivalent or higher
  • 10+ years of project experience on large, complex projects
  • 2+ years of experience as an on-site/field engineer for large, complex projects
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and with minimum direction to solve challenging problems
  • Candidate must have strong analytical/problem solving skills
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate with internal and external engineering and construction teams with minimal direction
  • Experience with new nuclear power plant projects
  • Experience with commercial codes and standards such as IBC, ACI 318, AISC 360 and ASCE 7
  • Experience with nuclear codes and standards such as ACI 349, ACI 359, AISC N690, ASCE 4, and ASCE 43
  • Experience working projects with NRC or DOE regulations
  • Ability to deliver projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
  • Ability to work on tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork
  • Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
