This position is located at the NASA Stennis Space Center, Mississippi.
Job Overview
Nova Space Solutions (NSS) is seeking a Grounds Technician to support NASA operations. This position is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and attractive outdoor environments through landscaping, lawn care, and grounds maintenance activities. The Grounds Technician performs a variety of tasks to maintain landscaped areas, vegetation, and exterior facilities while supporting the overall appearance and safety of the site.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
Maintain landscaped areas, lawns, trees, shrubs, and other exterior spaces
Promote safe work practices and maintain a clean, professional appearance throughout the facility
Operate landscaping equipment and tools safely and efficiently
Identify and report irrigation, plant health, and safety concerns
Work collaboratively with team members to complete scheduled grounds maintenance activities
Support seasonal landscaping and beautification projects
Perform other duties as assigned
Key Responsibilities:
Trim and shape shrubs, bushes, hedges, and trees to promote healthy growth and maintain appearance
Plant, water, and maintain annual flowers and seasonal landscape displays
Install, replenish, and spread mulch in designated landscape beds
Repair, replace, and maintain landscape edging materials
Operate lawn maintenance equipment, including mowers, edgers, string trimmers, and blowers
Perform routine lawn care activities, including mowing, edging, weed trimming, watering, and debris removal
Load, unload, transport, and secure equipment and materials, including trailers when required
Identify and report landscape deficiencies, irrigation issues, equipment concerns, and safety hazards
Maintain assigned tools and equipment in safe operating condition
Perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, lawn care, or outdoor maintenance
  • General knowledge of landscaping practices and grounds maintenance safety procedures
  • Experience operating commercial landscaping equipment and power tools
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to safely operate motor vehicles and trailers as required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required NASA site access and credentials

Preferred:
  • Experience supporting NASA, Federal, or government contractor environments
  • Experience operating commercial landscaping or grounds maintenance equipment
  • Experience with irrigation systems or tree maintenance

Working Conditions:
  • Work performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Regular exposure to heat, cold, rain, humidity, dust, pollen, insects, noise, and uneven terrain
  • Frequent use of landscaping equipment, hand tools, and power equipment

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and push or pull equipment for extended periods
  • Ability to climb ladders and navigate uneven terrain as needed
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and gloves
  • Ability to work outdoors in hot, cold, and inclement weather conditions for extended periods
