Job Description
New River Community College (NRCC) is a comprehensive community college located in the New River Valley of Virginia. At NRCC you can prepare for the future with any of our various occupational programs or college transfer courses. NRCC faculty members are well known not just for their academic background, but also for their capacity to work closely and effectively with students. You'll find that they have a genuine interest in your success. They also have excellent academic credentials. All faculty who teach college transfer courses have doctorates or master's degrees, while those in occupational programs have a diverse background which combines academics with practical on-the-job experience. In recent years individual professors and college programs have received state and national awards for their quality.
New River Community College's Academic Success Center is accepting applications for various tutor positions. The successful applicant will be responsible for meeting with NRCC students individually or in small groups to discuss course concepts and share effective learning, studying, and test-taking strategies specific to their course.
Job responsibilities
* Conducting scheduled and walk-in tutoring sessions with students on course-related material
* If embedded, attending class with students and working closely with NRCC instructors.
* Helping students find answers to their questions
* Recording session notes
* Reviewing lesson plans
* Familiarizing themselves with current textbooks
* Completing manager-assigned projects
* Staffing the front desk when needed, answering phone calls and assisting with operational tasks.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
* Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in related field.
* Ability to work well with others in a professional manner.
* Good oral and written communication skills.
If you are a student, you must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a letter grade of A in subjects you tutor.
