The Role
This benchmark is intended to be used by companies that have generic classifications engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical.
This position will lead the E81 Nuclear Overhaul Digital Engineering (NODE) group for E81. The mission for this group is to prioritize and accelerate the development and deployment of reliable digital innovation solutions, with goals of improving schedule, cost performance, work execution, and worker efficiency. This group will have cognizance of digital transformation, digital innovation efforts, digital procedure department ownership, and support of the overarching Nuclear Propulsion Division (NPD) Technology Innovation program for the department. The chosen candidate will oversee a diverse team working on digital initiatives, interface with various levels of management (front line up to VP) to identify user needs and map them to a technical solution; interface with external customers; interface with 3rd party software/hardware suppliers; define and build upon the overall E81 IT strategy; and support solution implementation, product support and future improvement efforts.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
This role requires ability to understand the business and integrate technology into the business/process.
Nice to Have
Desired experience includes evaluating digital solutions, designing, implementing, and testing applications, as well as experience in translating end user needs into software requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of strong technical knowledge (software), shipyard operations knowledge, and strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience with deploying first-of-a-kind technical solutions in a technology stagnant environment is highly desirable.
