Nurse Practitioner (NPs) specialist is a participant in a 12-month paid fellowship designed for newly (18 months or less) certified and licensed NPs. The Fellowship program is structured to give mentored clinical time and dedicated learning opportunities. The NP Fellow will gain broad exposure to primary and integrated mental health care and engage in skills training, didactic seminars, supervised and independent clinical practice, interprofessional education and collaboration, professional development activities and enhance leadership skills. This one-year fellowship is full-time employment as a trainee within UNMC and is designed for NP graduates who aspire to practice in rural and underserved areas of Nebraska.

Current RN license and current APRN licensure and certification as a nurse practitioner by an appropriate national professional organization.

Ability to relate to patients and staff, to assess patient needs and to provide appropriate primary healthcare services. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written form. Effective critical thinking and analytical skills. Knowledge of healthcare policy, Medicare/Medicaid regulations and societal factors affecting the delivery of primary healthcare. Ability to work independently as well as in a multi-disciplinary team setting.
