Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Bartenders are the face of the Snake Oil bar program. This role owns execution behind the bar at private events, brand activations, and venue programs - building cocktails to spec, serving guests with warmth and precision, and keeping the station running cleanly from setup through breakdown.

Bartenders work under the direction of Event Managers and Bar Managers, and often set the pace for the support staff working their station. The role requires speed, consistency, and composure in high-volume, constantly changing event environments.

Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesBar Execution
  • Build cocktails to Snake Oil recipe and presentation standards, including batched and pre-built service formats
  • Execute wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverage service as assigned
  • Maintain pour standards, consistency, and speed across high-volume service periods
  • Prepare garnishes, juices, syrups, and mise en place prior to service
  • Monitor product levels and communicate replenishment needs to bar support staff
Event Preparation and Setup
  • Review event details, service instructions, and BEOs in the Nowsta scheduling platform
  • Arrive prepared and in proper uniform in accordance with company standards
  • Set bar stations according to event diagrams and Bar Manager direction, including glassware, tools, ice, and product placement
  • Confirm all equipment and service materials are clean and event ready
Guest Service and Hospitality
  • Deliver professional, courteous, and attentive service to guests at the bar
  • Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly to service requests
  • Represent the Snake Oil brand with a positive and respectful demeanor toward guests, clients, vendors, and fellow staff
  • Practice responsible alcohol service and comply with all applicable state and local laws, including refusal of service when required
Event Operations Support
  • Communicate clearly with Event Managers, Bar Managers, and fellow staff throughout event execution
  • Adapt to changes in event timing, service needs, and guest volume
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and presentation of the bar throughout the event
  • Direct bar support staff at the station as needed to maintain service flow
Breakdown and Post-Event Duties
  • Break down bar stations, pack and properly store product, tools, and equipment
  • Account for remaining inventory and report to the Event Manager or Bar Manager
  • Assist with restoring event spaces according to venue standards
Required Education and Experience
  • Prior bartending experience in events, catering, restaurant, bar, or hotel environments required
  • Experience with high-volume service strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of classic cocktails, spirits categories, and basic wine service preferred
  • Ability to follow recipes and operational instructions precisely
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in fast-paced environments
Required Certifications and Licenses
  • Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification required prior to first shift
  • California Food Handler Card required prior to first shift
  • Ability to complete any additional training required for event service roles
Schedule and Availability
  • Hourly, event-based position
  • Shifts scheduled through Nowsta based on the event calendar
  • Nights, weekends, and holidays are regularly required due to event schedules
  • Shift hours vary based on event size and operational needs
  • Seasonal opportunity for three months with potential to convert to full-time regular
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and remain active for extended periods during events
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform physical event setup tasks
  • Ability to work in active event environments, including indoor and outdoor venues
Compensation
  • Pay range is $18.00-$20.00 per hour for this seasonal opportunity
  • This role is eligible for the tip pool at events in addition to base pay rate
  • Event-based scheduling opportunities
