What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a nonprofit software engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Nonprofit Software Engineer, you need strong programming skills, experience with web and mobile development, and a solid understanding of software engineering principles, often demonstrated by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with common nonprofit technology platforms (such as Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud), databases, open-source tools, and relevant certifications like Certified ScrumMaster or AWS certifications are advantageous. Excellent communication, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for mission-driven work are standout soft skills in this space. These skills help ensure software solutions are effective, scalable, and aligned with the unique goals and resource constraints of nonprofit organizations.

What is a nonprofit software engineer?

A Nonprofit Software Engineer designs, develops, and maintains software solutions specifically for nonprofit organizations. Their work often involves creating donor management systems, volunteer coordination platforms, or data reporting tools to support the nonprofit's mission. They may work with limited budgets and open-source technologies to create cost-effective and efficient solutions. In addition to technical skills, they often collaborate with nonprofit teams to understand organizational needs and ensure technology aligns with their goals.

What types of projects does a nonprofit software engineer typically work on within nonprofit organizations?

Nonprofit Software Engineers often develop and maintain donor management systems, create custom web applications for outreach and fundraising, and integrate various platforms to streamline organizational workflows. They may also work on data reporting tools, volunteer management software, or develop features that enhance accessibility and public engagement. Projects tend to prioritize cost-effectiveness, security, and scalability given the limited resources of many nonprofits. Teams are usually collaborative and mission-focused, with opportunities to work closely with program managers, fundraisers, and external stakeholders. This role allows you to see the tangible impact of your technology solutions on real-world causes.

Job description

About Fundraise Up

We're Fundraise Up - a global fundraising platform built to make donating to nonprofits fast, seamless, and accessible to all. Every month, our technology powers tens of millions of dollars in donations across the globe. We focus on innovation that directly impacts results: faster load times, higher conversion rates, global payment support, and accessibility-first design.

Our platform is trusted by many of the world's leading nonprofits, including UNICEF, the Alzheimer's Association, and a wide range of global NGOs. With a 4.9/5 rating across top software review platforms, we're recognized not just for our impact - but for the quality of the product we deliver.

About The Role

We're hiring a GTM Engineer to own the architecture, automation, and data integrity of our go-to-market stack. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role at the intersection of revenue strategy and technical execution. You'll turn sales, marketing, and customer success workflows into compounding, measurable systems that directly power pipeline and retention.

Reporting to the Sr. Manager of GTM Engineering, you'll work closely with revenue leadership to build the infrastructure that keeps our GTM motion fast, clean, and scalable. You're not just building - you're designing systems, owning outcomes, and communicating trade-offs clearly to stakeholders across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build enrichment waterfalls, lead scoring models, and CRM sync pipelines with deduplication logic in Clay. Own the quality and reliability of data flowing into our GTM systems from prospecting sources.
  • Administer Gong, build Flows and coaching triggers, and surface deal risk signals directly in Salesforce. Help revenue leadership turn conversation data into actionable insights.
  • Ship AI-powered automations, including outreach generation, call summaries, and ICP scoring, using LLM APIs integrated into Clay, Salesforce, and Nooks. Identify new opportunities to apply AI across the GTM motion.
  • Own CRM data quality end-to-end, including validation rules, deduplication, enrichment refresh cycles, and maintaining a GTM data dictionary. Data health is a metric you're accountable to.
  • Build event-driven automations across the GTM stack and own the integration layer between Salesforce, Clay, Gong, and other revenue tools. When systems don't talk to each other, you fix that.
  • We expect every team member to actively use AI in their day-to-day work, identify where AI can change the shape of problems in their function, and grow their fluency as the tools evolve. You should already be using AI meaningfully in your work and understand where it adds value and how it can improve the way you operate.
Skills and Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in GTM Engineering or Revenue Operations
  • Deep, hands-on experience building in Clay - enrichment waterfalls, scoring models, and CRM sync pipelines
  • Gong administration experience, including Flows and coaching trigger configuration
  • Salesforce administration - flows, validation rules, reports, and dashboards
  • Demonstrated experience shipping AI workflows in a GTM context using LLM APIs
  • Comfortable with SQL and working in a data warehouse environment
  • Strong communication skills - you can explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and own your outcomes with data
  • You proactively identify and close gaps without waiting to be directed
  • Nice to have but not required: Salesforce Admin certification, AI Workflows, Cassidy AI, N8N, Nooks, Series B-D SaaS background, Agile/Scrum certification.
Compensation
  • The compensation range for this role is $100,000 - $110,000.
  • Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, qualifications, alignment with the role's requirements and location.
Perks & Benefits
  • Health, Dental, and Vision insurance covered at 100% for employees, 80% for employee plus dependents, and 70% for employees plus family.
  • FSA and HSA Spending Account.
  • 20 days of vacation, 5 sick days, 11 company holidays plus an additional 1 floating holiday.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • 100% Company-paid short-term disability, long-term disability, basic life insurance and AD&D.
  • Paid parental leave (12 weeks for primary caregivers / 6 weeks for secondary caregivers).
  • Generous home office stipend to support your remote workspace.
  • Annual professional development stipend to support your growth (e.g., workshops, courses, and seminars).
  • Charitable giving program and paid volunteer time off with registered non-profits.
