Job Opportunity
Position Overview
This position involves providing basic nursing care to both non-acute and acutely ill residents while ensuring the maintenance of a safe and clean environment. The role requires the ability to remain calm and make sound judgments when caring for patients, especially during emergencies. Regular lifting of non-ambulatory patients/residents is necessary. A caring attitude is essential when interacting with patients, families, and coworkers in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain nursing data through interviews and observation of residents under the supervision of a Licensed Nurse (LN).
  • Document observation findings and provide general nursing care to adult and geriatric populations including:

    • Assisting with personal hygiene (bed baths, oral care, dressing).
    • Applying heat and cold appliances.
    • Monitoring vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, etc.).
  • Collect and transport specimens; recognize and report abnormal findings to the supervising LN.
  • Provide bedside care, including:
    • Positioning and lifting residents.
    • Assisting with toileting needs and mobility.
    • Feeding assistance and caring for residents' belongings.
    • Changing bed linens and maintaining cleanliness in resident areas.
  • Assist in preparing residents for transport and coordinate necessary logistics.
  • Provide one-on-one care for residents as needed for their safety.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment by preparing nursing areas, reporting issues, and managing supplies effectively.
  • Participate in the disposal of waste in accordance with organization policies.
  • Replenish supplies in resident rooms and other shared areas.

Unit Specialty Responsibilities
  • Obtain 12-lead Electrocardiograms (ECGs) and train in telemetry monitoring.
  • Become a Point of Care Trainer within three months of obtaining certification.
  • Cross-train in different areas such as Emergency Department, Labor Delivery, and Surgical Department for optimal staffing flexibility.
  • Understand and perform the responsibilities of the Senior Office Specialist/Ward Clerk as necessary.
  • Initiate and participate in performance improvement projects within the unit.
  • Serve as a preceptor for new CNA staff and students.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of prior experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
  • Current full, unrestricted CNA license in the state of Alaska.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Willingness to complete additional training courses as required by the unit.
