A Non Union Masonry Apprentice is an entry-level worker who is learning masonry skills on the job with a non-union employer. This role involves assisting experienced masons with tasks like mixing mortar, laying bricks or blocks, and cleaning tools or work areas. Apprentices gain hands-on experience while developing the technical abilities needed to eventually become a full mason. Unlike union apprenticeships, non-union programs may vary in structure and benefits, but they still provide valuable training and pathways into the masonry trade.

What are the typical responsibilities and learning opportunities for a non union masonry apprentice during their first year on the job?

As a Non Union Masonry Apprentice, your first year will primarily involve assisting skilled masons with tasks such as preparing mortar, transporting materials, and setting up scaffolding. You'll also learn to use basic masonry tools and equipment, and gradually take on more complex tasks like laying bricks or blocks under supervision. The role provides hands-on training in reading blueprints, understanding job site safety, and mastering essential masonry techniques. This practical experience, combined with mentorship from experienced masons, helps build a solid foundation for career advancement in the trade.
