Job description

Position Summary
The Member Engagement and Communications Coordinator supports the Dakota Credit Union Association's strategic goals by strengthening relationships with affiliated credit unions and supporting the association's communications efforts. This role emphasizes member engagement, outreach, and relationship-building while helping deliver clear, consistent, and compelling messaging through writing, editing, content creation, public relations, social media, and the association's biweekly electronic newsletter.
Serving as a liaison between DakCU and its member credit unions, this position helps connect members with association resources, elevate stories of impact, and encourage participation in programs, advocacy initiatives, educational opportunities, and events. The coordinator collaborates with DakCU staff, chapters, and Foundation partners to deliver member-focused communications that reinforce the value of DakCU and the credit union movement.
Additional responsibilities include providing communications support and coverage for DakCU events, the Dakota Credit Union Foundation, and the Dakota Service Corporation; assisting with content development for association programs and initiatives; and maintaining relationships with national and local credit union communications and media contacts.
Key Responsibilities
Member Engagement & Relationship Support
  • Serve as a liaison between DakCU and affiliated credit unions, supporting relationship-building and member engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain regular contact with member credit unions to gather feedback, identify engagement opportunities, and collect stories for internal and external promotion.
  • Support initiatives that increase participation in DakCU programs, advocacy, communications, and activities.
  • Help showcase and market the value of DakCU to affiliated credit unions, their members, and prospective members.

Communications & Content Development
  • Draft, edit, and oversee the distribution member-facing communications including The Memo biweekly newsletter, press releases, announcements, and promotional messaging.
  • Guide DakCU's public communications and media relations efforts, including public relations, public affairs, advocacy support, and social media.
  • Oversight and support of social media content development and scheduling in alignment with DakCU messaging strategy.
  • Oversee and produce DakCU's biweekly electronic newsletter, The Memo, including content development and list quality management in Constant Contact and related tools.
  • Ensure consistency in tone, messaging, and brand standards across all communications.

Chapter & Foundation Communications
  • Support Dakota chapter communications, including meeting notices, presentations, announcements, reminders, and follow-up messaging.
  • Assist with chapter coordination and staff support for chapter-related engagement activities.
  • Serve as liaison and provide communications support for the Dakota Credit Union Foundation as the Executive Director of the Foundation, including correspondence with grant applicants, recipients, and the board of directors.
  • Assist and coordinate Foundation fundraising communications and goals.
  • Represent the Dakota Credit Union Foundation within the State Credit Union Foundation Network.

Awards & Recognition
  • Support communications and promotion of DakCU awards and recognition programs.
  • Assist with announcements, recipient highlights, and storytelling related to award honorees.
  • Coordinate messaging and promotion efforts (excluding logistics and tracking).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, business administration, or related field; or the equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with member organizations.
  • Experience in communications, marketing, or public relations preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with digital communication tools, website content management, and social media platforms.

Additional Expectations
  • Serve as a credit union ambassador and advocate.
  • Attend DakCU events, including the Annual Meeting & Summit and chapter events, as needed. Other occasional travel required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO or VP of Marketing & Communications.

Preferred location is Bismarck, ND, or Sioux Falls, SD, at DakCU headquarters. Remote candidates residing within North Dakota or South Dakota may be considered based on qualifications and organizational needs.
