Class Summary
Provide the expertise, knowledge, and instruction that support the pharmacy technician program curriculum. Prepare, develop, and revise course curriculum and course work. Meet classes as scheduled and complete all instruction-related paperwork and duties (textbook requests, incomplete grade contracts, test and assignment grading) in a timely fashion or by a deadline assigned by the supervisor and/or established by the College. Define and practice a clear communication policy with students, maintaining office hours for student consultation and returning student emails and phone calls. Adhere to the College academic calendar with regards to submission of grades, attendance at mandatory events, and required contact hours in courses taught.

Minimum Education/Training/Experience
-Associates degree or higher, preferably in pharmacy or a health-related field
-PTCB Certification or Pharmacist License
-TSBP Registration as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist
-Three (3) years of pharmacy work experience
Preferred Education/Training/Experience
-Three (3) years of pharmacy work experience in an institutional setting
-IV Certification
-Previous Instructor Experience
Minimum Knowledge & Skills

• Working knowledge of pharmacy operations in retail, hospital, or clinical settings.
• Knowledge of pharmacy law, ethics, and regulations, including scope of practice for pharmacy technicians.
• Understanding of medication classifications, dosage forms, calculations, and safety practices.
• Familiarity with pharmacy workflow, inventory management, and customer/patient communication.
• Awareness of certification expectations for pharmacy technicians (e.g., PTCB or equivalent).
• Basic understanding of dual credit education requirements, including teaching college-level curriculum to high school students.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working with high school-aged students.
• Skill in assessment and evaluation, including grading exams, labs, and competency-based activities.
• Competence in using instructional technology, learning management systems, and basic computer applications.
• Ability to maintain accurate academic records, including attendance and grades.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to maintain a safe and compliant learning environment, especially during lab or skills-based instruction.
• Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and ethical conduct.
• Ability to collaborate with college faculty, program coordinators, and high school partners.
• Willingness to follow institutional policies and complete required training related to dual credit instruction.
• Commitment to student success and workforce readiness.

Job Duties

• Teach dual credit Pharmacy Technician courses aligned with the college's approved curriculum, Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM) standards, and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) requirements.
• Deliver instruction using effective pedagogical strategies appropriate for high school students earning college credit, including lecture, lab, simulation, and hands-on activities.
• Integrate pharmacy law, ethics, safety, medication preparation, dosage calculations, and pharmacy operations into instruction as outlined in course learning outcomes.
• Embed workforce readiness skills and professional behaviors aligned with pharmacy practice standards.
• Evaluate student performance using college-approved assessments, including exams, skills checklists, labs, and practical demonstrations.
• Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student learning and academic success.
• Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance in the college's learning management and student information systems.
• Support students' preparation for Pharmacy Technician certification exams (e.g., PTCB), as appropriate to the course sequence.
• Ensure compliance with dual credit standards, including college policies, partner high school agreements, and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Adhere to FERPA, HIPAA awareness practices, and professional standards relevant to pharmacy education.
• Supervise and maintain a safe instructional environment during laboratory and skills-based instruction.
• Ensure proper use, storage, and handling of pharmacy-related materials and equipment.
• Enforce safety protocols and infection control standards consistent with pharmacy practice.

Licensing/Certification Requirements
Associates degree or higher, preferably in pharmacy or a health-related field
-PTCB Certification or Pharmacist License

Physical Requirements
Usual Environment: May work indoors in classroom, skills lab, and office, travel to clinical assignments.
Physical: Must be able to perform tasks successfully.
