We are hiring Registered Nurses for a field-based Crisis Intervention Team supporting the NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS). This role involves providing direct medical and behavioral health support to individuals experiencing homelessness across NYC.
This is a non-traditional RN role requiring strong crisis intervention, de-escalation, and the ability to work in high-pressure, real-world environments (streets, subways, parks, shelters).
Clinical Responsibilities
We are hiring Registered Nurses for a field-based Crisis Intervention Team supporting the NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS). This role involves providing direct medical and behavioral health support to individuals experiencing homelessness across NYC.
This is a non-traditional RN role requiring strong crisis intervention, de-escalation, and the ability to work in high-pressure, real-world environments (streets, subways, parks, shelters).
Clinical Responsibilities
- Conduct medical and mental health assessments in the field
- Perform crisis intervention and de-escalation
- Identify individuals requiring urgent medical/psychiatric care
- Coordinate with hospitals, law enforcement, and outreach teams
- Support involuntary interventions under Section 9.58 (training provided)
- Provide direct, hands-on patient care
- Active New York RN License (PSV required)
- AHA BLS Certification
- Minimum 2 years recent Behavioral Health / Psych RN experience
- Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
- Comfortable working in field/outreach environments
- Willing to travel across NYC boroughs
- Psych ER or inpatient psych experience
- Experience with homeless or vulnerable populations
- Prior crisis / outreach / mobile team experience

- Work as part of a 3-person team:
- RN
- MTA Staff
- Police Officer
- Reports to a central meeting point at start of shift
- Assigned a primary borough weekly, but may support across NYC
- Fully field-based role (streets, subways, parks, shelters)
- No personal vehicle required (public transportation acceptable)
- Fixed shift (assigned; may request changes)
- Multiple shift options:
- 4:00 AM - 12:00 PM
- 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
- 8:00 PM - 4:00 AM
- 40 hours/week
- Schedule is consistent week-to-week
- Weekend/holiday flexibility required
- Overtime not guaranteed (requires approval)
- 2-day mandatory 9.58 training (DOH)
- 2-week DHS onboarding training (Mon-Fri, 8 AM - 4 PM)
