Job description

  • POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Foundation Specialist provides administrative and operational support for the UNC Health Southeastern Foundation and serves as an integral member of the Foundation team. This position supports the Executive Director and assists with fundraising initiatives including annual events such as THE MED GALA, Boots & BBQ, and the employee giving campaign, as well as annual giving and capital campaign efforts.

    Responsibilities include helping coordinate event logistics; assisting with donor, sponsor, and community partner communications; preparing proposals and supporting materials; maintaining donor and fundraising records; tracking goals and timelines; and assisting with the planning and on-site execution of Foundation events and donor engagement activities. The Foundation Specialist also supports the financial operations of the Foundation by maintaining donor and fund records, preparing financial documentation and reports, coordinating approved transfers of Foundation funds, and assisting with monthly financial reporting and reconciliation processes.

    This position provides administrative and operational support for the Foundation Board of Trustees, including coordinating board meetings, preparing agendas and materials, maintaining board records, and assisting with board communications.

    The Foundation Specialist represents the UNC Health Southeastern Foundation in a professional and welcoming manner and contributes to a collaborative, donor-centered team environment while interacting with donors, volunteers, board members, physicians, teammates, and community partners.

    EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:

    Minimum Required:

    Associate degree in business administration, nonprofit management, communications, accounting, or a related field;

  • or an equivalent combination of education and relevant administrative or development support experience.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of administrative, office management, fundraising support, or related professional experience.

    Preferred:
    Experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or donor relations.
    Experience working with fundraising databases such as Blackbaud Raiserโ€™s Edge or similar donor management systems.
    Experience supporting board meetings, donor engagement activities, or special events.
    Experience working in a healthcare or nonprofit foundation setting.

    ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

    Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demonstrates enthusiasm for supporting fundraising efforts in a healthcare, donor-centered environment and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team setting. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
    This position works closely with UNC Health Southeastern Foundation leadership and staff and interacts regularly with physicians, hospital leadership, the Medical Center and Foundation Boards of Trustees, patients, donors and donor families, community leaders, elected officials, vendors, business partners, and teammates across UNC Health Southeastern departments in support of the Foundationโ€™s fundraising initiatives and programs.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Primarily office-based with participation in Foundation events and activities as needed. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support fundraising events, donor engagement activities, and community outreach.
