SOMN (Special Olympics Minnesota) is a chapter of the world's largest organization advocating for the advancement and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities, and through current sports, health, and leadership programs engaging people with and without disabilities, provides a positive impact for Minnesotans of every age and every ability.ย 

Are you passionate about fostering inclusion, making a meaningful impact in your community, and gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit event management and corporate partnership support? Special Olympics Minnesota is looking for dynamic and motivated Special Events and Corporate Partnerships Interns to join our team.ย 


Job Type: Part-time, Internshipย 


Expected Hours: About 20 hours per week. This position will require some weekend and evening work at events, including most Saturdays in January, February, and March.ย 


Timeframe: October 2026ย - March 2027, with opportunity to extend into Spring and Summer months. Great multi-year opportunity! Come back in future years to continue building on the team's success.ย 


Pay: $20.00 per hourย 


Work Location: Flexible, hybrid schedule with Wednesday and Thursday designated as in-office days in Minneapolis, MN, with opportunities to work from home outside of event schedules.ย 


Work Environment: This position requires outdoor work during events and may involve working in extreme cold, extreme hot, or changing weather conditions. Staff are expected to follow all event safety protocols.ย 


Additional Items:ย 

  • Laptop and training provided.ย 
  • Parking allowance when working in downtown Minneapolis.ย 
  • Mileage, parking, and other travel expenses reimbursed for working on-site at events.ย 
  • All applicants must pass a background check as part of the hiring process.ย 

This internship will provide experience in:ย 

  • planning and preparing for fundraising events, such as Special Olympics Minnesota's Polar Plunges, Plane Pull, SOMN Open, Move for Inclusion, Torch Run Final Leg and more;ย 
  • preparing materials, supplies, and equipment for meetings, trainings, and events;ย 
  • managing event details on-site such as setup and teardown, supervising volunteers, and managing the participant experience;ย 
  • recruiting volunteers, groups, and businesses to participate in and support events;ย 
  • working with industry standard tools to track and analyze data and results; andย 
  • working with an established team to host high-quality, successful fundraising events, grossing over $6M annually.ย 
  • Other duties may include preparing proposals and reports for corporate partners, collaborating with marketing staff to promote events and recruit participants, entering data, managing photos, and other resources. ย 
  • Seeking candidates with experience effectively using Microsoft 365 apps (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)ย
