JOB TITLE: Medical Laboratory Technician

SUPERVISOR: Laboratory Manager

HOURS PER WEEK: 40/Non-Exempt (Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:30pm)

DEPARTMENT: Laboratory

HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days

The following information is designed to outline the essential functions and position requirements of this job. It does not identify all tasks that may be expected, nor address the performance standards that must be maintained.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Position is responsible for performing testing on specimens, maintaining instrumentation, documenting quality assurance and quality control, and reporting results.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
1. Sample processing and analysis in the following departments: Hematology, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Urinalysis, Serology, Molecular, PCR, and Microbiology.
2. Follow quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy of test results.*
3. Monitor quality of and trouble-shoot potential problems with laboratory instruments. Perform preventative maintenance on lab equipment.*
4. Run and evaluate quality control specimens on all assays and procedures as required. Troubleshoot as necessary.*
5. Run and report proficiency testing specimens in a timely fashion.*
6. Conduct inventory of lab supplies, replenish supplies and discard containers.*
7. Maintain clean work area and dispose of bio-hazardous waste properly.*
8. Act as back-up phlebotomist and specimen processor as required.
9. Prepare specimens for transfer as needed.
10. Enter test data into computer, maintain logs and records, and compile statistics for control data.*
11. Answer phone and notify proper personnel regarding unexpected or action limit test results.*
12. Work in branch laboratories as needed.
13. Participate as an active team member in a patient-centered medical home.
14. Work respectfully and collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.*
15. Other tasks as assigned.
16. Maintain regular, in person, work attendance and punctuality, as scheduled.*

REQUIREMENTS:
Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
Medical Technologist or ASCP equivalent
