Physical Security Programmer
Summary
The Physical Security Programmer is responsible for configuring and commissioning electronic security systems, including access control, video management, intercoms, intrusion detection, and related integrations. This role ensures systems are programmed accurately, tested thoroughly, and documented properly to meet customer and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Program and configure access control systems (ex: Genetec, LenelS2, Brivo, Openpath).
  • Configure video management systems and cameras (Genetec Security Center, Axis, Hanwha, Avigilon, etc.).
  • Set up controllers, interface modules, readers, locks, inputs/outputs, and time schedules.
  • Perform database setup: cardholders, access levels, partitions, badge templates, and audit trails.
  • Integrate hardware: intercoms, gate/door controllers, turnstiles, visitor kiosks, LPR, alarms.
  • Troubleshoot system issues at both software and hardware levels.
  • Work with technicians to test field devices and complete commissioning checklists.
  • Ensure networking components (IP addresses, VLANs, routing, DNS, ports) are properly configured.
  • Train end-users on software functionality and best practices.
  • Generate system documentation including programming sheets, as-built configs, and test results.
  • Provide remote or onsite support during system cutovers or upgrades.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of access control and CCTV technologies.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, subnetting, switches, PoE).
  • Experience with Windows servers, virtual machines, SQL databases (preferred).
