- Reviews, edits, analyzes and enters manufacturing inspection data and reports the statistical process control information to all departments concerned.
- Identifies and reports non-conformance to known standards using various measuring and test methods.
- Also tracks these reports to ensure they are properly dispositioned.
- Performs destructive and non-destructive test on material, parts or product to measure performance, life or material characteristic.
- Performs and monitors calibration on all test and measuring equipment (NIST).
- The ZEISS CMM / Gage Lab Technician is responsible for operating coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and maintaining metrology systems to ensure product quality and compliance with engineering specifications.
- This role supports manufacturing and quality teams by performing precision measurements, developing inspection programs, and maintaining calibration systems within the gage laboratory.
CMM Operation & Programming
- Operate ZEISS Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to perform dimensional inspections on components and assemblies.
- Develop, edit, and validate CMM programs using ZEISS Calypso software.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and specifications to create inspection routines.
- Perform first article inspections (FAI), in-process inspections, and final inspections.
Gage Lab Management
- Maintain and manage gage inventory, including tracking calibration status and usage.
- Perform calibration and verification of measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, and specialized fixtures.
- Ensure compliance with calibration standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100 as applicable).
- Document calibration records and maintain traceability to national standards (e.g., NIST).
Inspection & Reporting
- Analyze measurement data and generate detailed inspection reports.
- Identify and communicate non-conformances to quality and manufacturing teams.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions using measurement data.
- Maintain accurate documentation and inspection records.
Quality Support
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve dimensional and tolerance issues.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to measurement processes.
- Assist with audits (internal/external) and compliance requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum certification of ASNT-TC-1A Level I in Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant Testing.
- Working knowledge of ISO9000 Quality Systems, Quality practices and applications (API, ASTM, NIST).
- Experience with ZEISS CMM and Calypso software.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading.
- Experience in a gage lab or metrology environment.
- Knowledge of calibration methods and measurement uncertainty.
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools.
- Knowledge of standards
