JOB SUMMARY:

As a Dock Worker, your primary responsibility is to facilitate the efficient loading and unloading of freight at the trucking terminal. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow of goods between transportation vehicles and the terminal, contributing to the overall logistics and supply chain operations.  Maintain a clean and safe work environment for the worker as well as those they work around and wear appropriate PPE required for the job.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Safely and efficiently load and unload freight from trucks and other transportation vehicles using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other relevant equipment.
  • Organize and sort incoming and outgoing freight based on destination, shipping method, and other relevant criteria to streamline the dispatch and delivery process.
  • Accurately record and maintain documentation related to shipments, ensuring that all relevant information such as quantity, weight, and destination are correctly documented.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines during loading, unloading, and handling of freight. Report any safety hazards or incidents immediately.
  • Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks, in a safe and efficient manner. Conduct routine checks and maintenance on equipment as required.
  • Collaborate with truck drivers, warehouse staff, and other team members to coordinate the timely and accurate movement of freight. Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing freight for damage, discrepancies, or defects. Report any issues to the appropriate personnel and follow established procedures for handling damaged or incorrect shipments.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records by verifying stock levels, conducting cycle counts, and participating in periodic inventory audits.
  • Work collaboratively with terminal staff to ensure the overall efficiency of terminal operations. Provide support to other areas of the terminal as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse or dock worker role preferred.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Physical strength and stamina to handle the demands of manual labor, including lifting and moving heavy freight.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and willingness to follow safety guidelines.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment and occasionally lift heavy objects.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and other relevant regulations.
