Job description

The Webb School of Engineering at High Point University invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor of Computer Engineering, with an expected start date of January 1, 2027. A later start date is feasible. The successful candidate will join the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and contribute to the continued growth of computing and engineering programs within the School.
We seek a creative, dynamic, and student-centered teacher-scholar who will play an important role in delivering high-quality undergraduate instruction, developing innovative and active-learning classroom and laboratory experiences, mentoring students, pursuing scholarly research, and contributing to department, school, university, and professional service. The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Computer Engineering and related areas. While research specialization is open, the successful candidate is likely to teach courses such as Real-Time and Embedded Systems; Computer Architecture; Digital Logic and Computer Systems; Microprocessor Applications; Digital Signal Processing; and related courses in computer engineering, electrical engineering, and computing systems.
Additional expectations include academic advising, supporting undergraduate research, assisting with curriculum development and assessment, contributing to ABET accreditation efforts, supporting student recruitment and retention, and serving on department, school, and university committees. Faculty appointments are for a nine-month contract period with a normal teaching load of 12 contact hours per semester.
Qualifications
Education
Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. or doctorate in Computer Engineering or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability
The successful candidate should have demonstrated promise of excellence in undergraduate teaching, evidence of scholarly achievement or strong potential for scholarly productivity, and an interest in working with highly motivated undergraduate students. Candidates should be committed to student success, experiential learning, undergraduate research, and the development of innovative laboratory and project-based educational experiences.
The preferred candidate will demonstrate one or more of the following:
  • Ability to teach core and advanced undergraduate courses in Computer Engineering;
  • Experience with laboratory-based instruction in areas such as embedded systems, digital logic, computer architecture, microprocessor applications, digital signal processing, or related areas;
  • Interest in mentoring undergraduate research projects, design projects, or competition teams;
  • Potential to develop partnerships with industry, government agencies, or other academic institutions;
  • Interest in contributing to curriculum development, assessment, and ABET accreditation activities;
  • A collaborative mindset and a desire to contribute to a growing engineering and computing environment.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Teach 12 contact hours per semester;
  • Teach undergraduate courses in Computer Engineering and related areas;
  • Advise and mentor students;
  • Pursue scholarly research or creative activity, especially in partnership with undergraduate students;
  • Assist with curriculum development, assessment, and ABET accreditation;
  • Support student recruitment, retention, and success initiatives;
  • Participate in department, school, and university meetings and committees;
  • Engage in service activities at the department, school, university, and professional levels;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean.
