Description
The Camp Director is ultimately responsible for roughly 100 campers each day and must be able to manage staff and work with kids of all ages to conduct a safe, enjoyable and postive summer camp experience. Camp will be held at The Lake Forest Recreation Center.
Each week will feature a different sport where staff will instruct basic skills in that sport through drills and game play. Daily activities will include the coaching of each sport as well as introductions of group games and actvities that promote building strong character and team building. Above all, FUN is stressed at this very popular camp.
There are daily swim trips to and from the Lake Forest Beach and Lake Forest High School pool. Each Wednesday is a field trip to various locations around northern Illinois, including a handful of waterparks (counselors are expected to be in the water with campers).
At a minimum, applicants MUST be committed for 8 weeks of 'camp' and the 1 week of 'last hoorah' as noted below. Ideally, the candidate will be able to direct all the camp options listed below.
Reasonable requested days off are exceptable as long as they are communicated to the Program Supervisor during the interview.
Camp Dates
Training: May 26th & May 28th 6:00pm-8:30pm
May 30th & June 6th 9:00am-3:00pm
Pre-Camp: June 8th-June 12th 9:00am-3:00pm
Camp: June 15th-Aug. 7th 8:00am-4:00pm
Last Hoorah: Aug. 10th-Aug. 14th 8:00am-4:00pm
Post-Camp: Aug. 17th-Aug. 21st 9:00am-3:00pm
Examples of Duties
  • Manage 10-12 counselors and up to 8 CIT's (counselors in training) during the camp season.
  • Develop and implement a camp lesson plan including daily activities in the following categories; sports, group games, arts & crafts and team building.
  • Set up and take down various camp equipment throughout each camp day.
  • Ensure a safe environment for staff, and campers at all times.
  • Exemplify customer service, constantly.
  • Lead and participate in all daily camp activities.

Qualifications
  • Enjoy working outdoors and being with kids.
  • Background in coaching multiple sports.
  • Background in playing sports is preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Possess strong organization, customer service and communications skills.

Pay is $20.00/hr DOQ
