What is a no driving nanny?

A No Driving Nanny is a childcare provider who does not transport children in a personal or family vehicle. Instead, they focus on in-home care, supervising activities, preparing meals, assisting with homework, and engaging children in creative play. They may also accompany children on walks, use public transportation, or supervise rides arranged by the family. This type of nanny is ideal for families who do not require driving as part of their childcare needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the no driving nanny position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a No Driving Nanny, you need experience in childcare, basic first aid knowledge, and strong organizational skills. Familiarity with indoor and outdoor activity planning, baby monitors, and basic communication apps is often beneficial. Patience, creativity, and effective communication with both children and parents are vital soft skills in this role. These abilities help ensure a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children without relying on transportation responsibilities.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a no driving nanny?

A No Driving Nanny is responsible for providing attentive care for children within the home or designated safe walking distance venues, such as parks or libraries. Daily tasks often include planning age-appropriate activities, preparing meals and snacks, assisting with homework, and maintaining a tidy play environment. Unlike traditional nanny roles, transportation by car is not expected, so the focus is on creating engaging, enriching experiences at home or nearby. No Driving Nannies frequently communicate with parents to update them on their child’s progress and collaborate on schedules. This role is ideal for those who prefer not to drive and can creatively make the most of local resources.

Job description

Overview

AUSTIN, TX (LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY) - Central Austin family seeking a FULL-TIME LIVE-OUT NANNY for their 6-year-old son, who will be starting kindergarten in the fall, and their 10-year-old daughter, who will be entering 5th grade. This family is active, busy, and full of life, and they are looking for someone who can match that energy and truly embrace the adventure of raising school-aged kids.

The family's beloved nanny of three years is moving on, and they are hoping to find someone equally warm and caring who is ready to step into a meaningful role. Mom and dad both work full-time with demanding schedules and are in the office four days a week, so they are counting on their nanny to be a steady, organized, and enthusiastic presence for their children.

The schedule is 11 am - 7 pm. Primary childcare hours are 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM following school pickup, with availability beginning at 11:00 AM to assist on the front end of the day before the kids are out. Children are in school until approximately 3:00 to 3:30 PM. The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, and loves getting kids out of the house for activities, sports, and exploring the city. Homework support and managing extracurricular schedules will be a core part of the day-to-day rhythm.

Duties include children's laundry, maintaining kids' rooms, light household tasks, meal prep, and grocery coordination for the family. There is one elderly cat in the home who simply enjoys the company. The candidate must have their own clean and safe vehicle and a clean driving record. The family will reimburse for gas and mileage.

The family is looking forward to increasing their international travel with the children and would welcome a candidate who is open to traveling with them. This is a bonus, not a requirement.

The role includes industry-standard 10 PTO days + 5 sick days. Candidates must be up to date on vaccines including Tdap, Covid, MMR, and Flu, and must be willing to sign an NDA for family privacy. Bilingual candidates are a wonderful bonus, with Spanish, French, German, and Japanese being of particular interest, though any second language is welcome. Start date is mid-August or ASAP for the right fit. Pay is $35-40+ gross per hour, commensurate with experience.
