Job description

At Air Manufacturing Innovation (Air MI), we deliver on Nike's most daring dream: giving every athlete the unparalleled sensation of walking on air. Since Nike introduced the Air sole in 1979, no technology has become more synonymous with Nike than Air. Our teams engineer, make, and perfect Nike's most advanced footwear components. Masters of teamwork, we challenge assumptions in order to get faster, drive efficiency and fine-tune technology to deliver quality performance plastic. At our state-of-the-art facilities located globally, Air MI is taking Air to places that we never thought possible.
WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
As a Senior Product Development Engineer, you will join the Design Engineering team at Air Manufacturing Innovation and report to the Manager or Senior Manager, Product Development Engineering, Design. You will collaborate multi-functionally with Project Management, Materials, Product Engineering, Equipment Controls and Safety, Operations, Maintenance, and Quality Teams.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a Senior Product Development Engineer to join a team of engineers responsible for commercializing and manufacturing Nike Air products. This role works cross functionally on projects ranging from new products, processes, and materials to continuous improvement on our existing product portfolio. You will apply deep expertise in product development, including process, tool design, and materials, while partnering with teammates and stakeholders to deliver high-quality engineering outcomes.
The candidate needs strong technical judgment in CAD-based part and tooling design, comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and the ability to own complex design assignments from concept through release. The ideal candidate communicates clearly across functions, manages multiple priorities, and contributes solutions when information is incomplete. This is an individual contributor role: the candidate will lead technical work on assigned projects and coach less experienced engineers.
What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or other manufacturing related degree, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
  • Minimum 3 years of related manufacturing experience within a high-volume manufacturing production environment
  • Proficiency using CAD tools for complex product and tooling design. NX & GD&T experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience using PDM software and in depth understanding of revision control. Teamcenter experience is strongly preferred
  • Validated project management skills and proven ability to deliver on multiple concurrent engineering assignments
  • Great teamwork and communication skills with ability to work with associates of all levels
  • Experience with Six Sigma Tools, Lean Manufacturing methods, industrial equipment safety, and fabrication and tolerancing for machined and additive tooling is preferred
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally on occasion
  • Experience with programming languages for scripting and developing applications for NX Open API is a plus.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON
You will own part and tooling design for new product development and continuous improvement initiatives that increase operational efficiency. You will partner with stakeholders across Air MI to align technical work with manufacturing priorities and deliver designs ready for production.
  • Design parts and tooling for new product development, from concept through detailed documentation and release
  • Develop and implement tooling-related changes for continuous improvement to increase operational efficiencies
  • Apply computational design methods and contribute to design and tooling operational excellence on your projects
  • Collaborate with Tooling Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Project Management, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Safety, and other partners to align tasks, timelines, and technical requirements
  • Support development of new Air products and daily manufacturing operations, including hands-on problem solving on the floor when needed
  • Solve problems using limited information, implement practical solutions, and anticipate downstream manufacturing impacts
  • Contribute to documenting and maintaining standard work instructions and design standards for the team
  • Share technical knowledge with teammates and communicate design decisions clearly to cross-functional partners

We offer a number of accommodations to complete our interview process including screen readers, sign language interpreters, accessible and single location for in-person interviews, closed captioning, and other reasonable modifications as needed.
